Hello everyone! I am so happy to have found this site! What brings me here is a situation with my 8 year old son. For about 6 months (maybe longer) he has complained on and off about ringing in his ears. He told me the ringing is 24 / 7 and never goes away. He had multiple ear infections as an infant / toddler which resulted in having tubes in both ears. They have pushed their way out, and he has been ear infection free for quite some time. I should not have discarded my sons complaints for as long as I did.
I took him to an ENT last week for his problem and he was given a hearing test. His hearing is fine, and he has no fluid in his ears. I was given no direction from the doctor other than tinnitus - to which there is no medication and herbs are not advisable for children. After posting this problem on webMD, however, the ENT specialist there suggested I take him to a Neurologist (as my son also experiences migraines........has had probably 5 in the past year). I am going to take his suggestion, but was wondering if anyone here had this sypmtom that a neurologist was able to help them with. There is quite a wait to get into a neurologist - so if there is anything encouraging anyone has to share it will hopefully help the waiting. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this. |

I have constant ringing in my ears because of a TBI.
Kids are so active they sometimes hurt themselves without realizing it. Is there any chance that your son has suffered a head trauma: struck by an object like a baseball, fallen and struck his head, had a shaking of some sort like from riding a violent amusement park ride...? Has he been exposed to too much noise? Those IPOD ear buds can be big trouble. Good luck to your son. I know just how annoying that ringing is!!! |

Hello!
Tinnitus is no fun ... I've had it as long as I can remember. I too had many severe ear infections when young and always assumed that was why. During my last visit to a neurologist, I mentioned that I had tinnitus ... and he replied, "So do I." His answer to my question is there anything to do about it was a simple NO. I have to agree with hockey that loud noise should be investigated as a possibility. Good luck with your md visit. |

When my (now adult) son was about 16, he and a friend went hunting. The friend shot his rifle w/o any warning. Since then, my son has had tinnitus and poor hearing.
Your son's migraines are concerning -- glad you are trying to get him some help. Good luck to you both!

There doesn't seem to be any known reason for his ringing. He did not have an injury and has not been subjected to loud noise.
I called and left a message asking for direction with his primary physician. He said he's like to see him as well - so we are going there tomorrow. I read that anemia can cause ringing and so can a Vitamin B deficiency - so maybe they will do some blood work to see if if has either of those. My husband has tinnitus and found using a combination of three herbs he came across on the internet helps him TREMENDOUSLY - but, herbs aren't recommended for kids - otherwise I'd start him on the same regime! Thank you for your replies. |
