Yes.
Perhaps having him involved in keeping a sleep journal would be appropriate. This can later be brought in to your child's pediatrician and/or discussed with a neurologist or some other sleep specialist. It is possible that your child is not getting enough quality sleep so needs to sleep more every couple days. He may need better sleep hygiene. He may have allergies. He may have the early stage of some autoimmune or inflammatory condition. He may have sleep apnea. He may have some other such sleep disorder. There are many questions - did this sleep pattern happen suddenly? Does it happen during a cluster of migraines? Does this happen in spite of normal 8-9 hour sleeps on other nights? You will want to carefully observe and write down everything you can, although a sleep specialist may want him to start a new journal for another month. Or, the sleep specialist may just want to schedule a sleep study. Or both.
