Frown i need help...info on leg cramps

it started yesterday morning with grandmonkey.

his right quad. it cramps up so hard he doubles over crying in pain. it is off and on. not a continual cramp.

a few times it seems like this is happenig right before he has to go pee. ( which is not cloudy...and he says it doesn't hurt to go)

he drinks lots of fluids during the day. i try and stop them by 7pm to prevent accidents at night. takes vitamins. eats real well. has a super fast metabolism. he is 5 and has a hard time staying over 40lbs. he is 43lbs right now and has maintained that for over a month. whoohoo.

i honestly can't think of anything physical he would have done different. he is very active. normally never sits still. he has barely been up walking around since yesterday. he is a rough and topugh little guy. not normally a cryer. oh...no briuses on his leg and i asked him if he bumped it..or tripped..pulled it. anything that might have hurt ...he says nope.

he does have a litte runny nose. clear. no fever. i think it is allergies.

i'm stumped. i feel so bad for him. i'm just stumped. not sure if anyone else has any ideas.

Curious

Heart

thanks tracy and dg.

i talked to our dr late this afternoon. we are to try are darndest to keep the litle guy from walking around tomorrow. he is thinking it is growing pains and grandmonkeys quad is tight and just cramping. he said lots of liquids. that should help with making him sit all day huh? i can see it now...potty trips every 30 minutes.

i'll try the tonic water dg. it should be ok to mix with juice you think? not sure if i can get him to drink it plain.

hi ic ic

grandmonkey eats one everyday. no joking. that and a fuji apple. the little guy eats real well. loves the foods most kids don't. we eat very healthy. we own a gym and hubby and i are also trainers.

after ratteling my brain...the only thing i can think that is different is him riding his bike. he still has the training wheels technically on. but they are set high and rarely touch the ground. i'm wondering if he has been using his right leg more.

oh..and i did find out he had snack things called lunchables with the neighbor boys 2 afternoons. they are lunch meat, cheese and crackers. he never has lunch meat. i am really funky about any of the kids eating foods that i don't know about. it was unusual for my neighbor to give him something.

guess we will see what the morning brings.

thank y'all for your suggestions. i'll make sure he has his banana with breakfast.

Lightbulb in our house,

my son had some odd habits, sitting "funny" tucking his legs up under himself sometimes, doing weird exercises etc. I always said he could break his leg
sitting a chair!

It doesn't take much to pull a tendon, and then they take a long time to heal.

Don't forget magnesium. Potassium is obvious, but low magnesium really leads
to cramps.

Some testicular pain can radiate down a leg, but 4 is rather young. The little
support tendons, can twist, and break and the testicle can then move when it shouldn't and then a sharp pain results. A doctor can verify this.
A friend of my son had it, when he was a teen. Doesn't even remember how it happened.
Also boys can have an inguinal hernia...only a doctor can evaluate this. It causes intermittent groin pain. You may or may
not see a bulge there when the intestine moves.

The bike may be a factor, combined with low magnesium. My mag thread has links for foods high in mag. Sitting in a warm bath of epsom salts usually relaxes muscle cramping.

Has he had an immunization lately? They give that in the thigh you know often...and that can hurt like the dickens.

If it continues past a couple of days, I'd get it checked out ASAP.
