I have always wondered about this connection. Maybe it isn't so much about the events actually happening but how they are dealt with by everyone. If the parents know how to cope with life changes they will teach the child how to cope also. Coping is mostly about not "stuffing" your feelings about events but dealing with the emotions that result.
