Default Study Assesses Effectiveness Of School-based Influenza Vaccination

I found this very interesting to know. Already there have been concerns here in our state.

"This school-based vaccination intervention resulted in a reduction in influenza-related outcomes in household members of children attending intervention schools," state the authors of an article published in the December 14, 2006, issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. Previous research has suggested that focusing influenza-vaccination efforts on healthy children may be an effective and practical method of reducing the burden of influenza in the community. The article presents findings from a study to assess the effect of a school-based vaccination program on the households of children attending the schools.

Crazy

Sadly tho, as much as there is benefit in preventing flu, there are risks associated with the vaccine as well, especially for children!

The vaccine contains adjuvants like aluminum, formaldehyde, thimerosal (mercury based), ethylene glycol ............and there is a lot of debate and controversy in the role of these agents in triggering neurological damage in the developing brains of kids.

So I guess one has to really weigh the pros and cons when it comes to this

For anyone interested, here is one of many threads on Latitudes related to vaccines and kids

I struggle with the vaccine issue. We don't do the flu vaccine either. And go figure, the one (and last) year we did, my daughter and I both ended up with a week long case of the flu over New Years Eve 2000! I know the vaccine didn't cause the flu, but it didn't prevent it either! All three of my kids had the chicken pox vaccine, and all three still got the chicken pox. Milder for my daughters, but my son had a severe case while in high school.

My youngest daughter had a minor reaction (neurological symptoms) after her kindergarten vaccines, and I just don't feel vaccines are perfectly safe for her. She is entering middle school next year... and I am going to have to address this issue again as it is booster time, the new cervical cancer vacinne is being recommended, etc.

My older daughter had a lot of immune system testing done by a DAN! doctor a few years back, includings titres for all the childhood vaccines...and her immune system is still actively reacting to those vaccines (they should have "cleared" by now). They just give so many these days, and I think those of us with family history of immune system problems (and neurological problems) have to pay even closer attention to the pros and cons. Here is what he recommends, which probably follows closely with DAN! protocol recommendations: http://www.pathwaysmed.com/menu/educ...cation300.html

Here is an 'alternative' flu protocol... interesting. We don't do this, but for anyone who may be interested in reading about alternatives~ http://www.pathwaysmed.com/menu/educ...cation200.html

Interesting info... thanks! Lots to think about, for sure. It is always a controversial topic, and while I think as a whole the population benefits from vaccine (especially the "big" ones), that does not necessarily hold true for each individual and every individual. So hard to know how to proceed sometimes~

I agree that it can be concerning. I, personally, have never taken a flu shot...ever.

I've never had my children to either.

If our school brought it around here, I don't know what I'd choose for my little man. It's something I find interesting but would have to know more about to make an informed decision so I appreciate the additional links!
