Well after waiting with baited breath for two months, I finally got my handicapped parking placard. It was to the point where I wasn't sure I was going to get it. I knew it would be a few weeks but there was a point in the last week or so where I thought I would get a letter saying nope, no dice for you! Then today I get a surprise in the mail. I tell you the relief I felt when I had it in my hands was something I hadn't felt in a while. Something to help me....finally.
It may be something simple but its something in the win column for once!

Hi Wendy ~
I'm so glad you got your hadicapped card! I have one too ~ and it can make a world of difference! I don't always use it, but on days when it hurts so bad to walk ~ it really comes in handy. It's kind of sad too ~ just like when I was awarded SSD. Kind of makes things official, you know? Anyway ~ I'm glad you finally got something to help you! Love, Sue |

Hi Wendy, I know how you feel, even what some may seem a small battle for most is a large war for those of us doing the fighting.
I know that even with my placard I often have to turn around and leave places because I know that once I get inside I won't be able to walk any distance, good news though because of it I do get out a little more often.. I"m happy for you. Linda |

Hooray for you, Wendy!!! And congratulations!!!
I've been trying to hold off on applying myself. Just my own little stubborn way of denying I need any help. But I'm so glad you got yours with no problem, and hope that if it comes down to it, I'll get mine that way, too. Idealist |

Thanks everyone. You are right. Even the what are thought of as the littlest battles are big ones to us.
I also don't plan on using it everyday. Only on the days I really need it. It was just so nice to hold it and know I don't have to worry anymore.

Congrats Wendy!
I too broke down and asked my MD how I go about getting my card and she smiled, reached into her closet and pulled out a paper, filled in a section and in under 60 seconds she handed it to me and as soon as the visit was done I went to the only place in town to pick up my cane before going to get my card and was told my insurance would not pay for it so I went 10 feet over to a thrift store, found a good black sturdy cane that was a perfect fit for 2 bux and 22.00 later had a pernament handicap placard in my hand and used it right away and it felt so secure and safe!

I used it for the first time today. I felt so naughty. Like I was doing something not quite right.
I guess its something you have to get used to.

Great news, Wendy. I remember months back when you were working on getting a placard. We only have 1 car and use my husband's placard, who has been disabled since 1987. But I guess if I got caught using it and they track it back to him, and I don't have one, I could have a nice hefty fine to pay. And, if anyone followed that whole thing - good work!
In any case, I'm so glad you got something that helps you, Wendy. Small issues for some, huge for others! Warm regards, nancy-h |

Congratulations Wendy!!!!!
I am happy for you!! I often take my mom and dad to places in my mom;s car.My dad has one since he is legally blind. Since i am driving ,i feel odd hopping out of the car..LOL My dad has macular degeneration and i know he wouldn't have received it had he not needed it..Yet when we go somewhere..I purposely never take the first space..I just feel like they can still at least walk.. What they do when they are out is up to them!I dont have a problem with that. I just dont feel right when i'm driving if i were to see someone unable to walk take the 2nd spot.ya know! Anyway,i am real happy for you Take care~
