Default Leg pain driving me crazy.

I've had this ever increasing leg (thigh) pain for over two years now. The pain includes: aching pain, numbness, tingling, sharp pains, etc.. I've been on various pain medications, with no luck. My doctor also had me get various tests
(blood, bone scan, ultrasound, etc.)

Does my pain sound like it could be a case of Meralgia Paresthetica ?

It could be bursitis....or sciatica. I have pain in that general area as well and been diagnosed with both.

I too have thigh pain, touch of hip pain and rt leg keeps trying to fall out from under me. Mine is so bad right now that I can hardly walk anywhere other than the house. Have an appointment with a rheumatologist in May. Hopefully some of my big questions will get addressed. My ortho was absoutely usless, not interested at all with any help. He prefers just doing surgery. Just says "I don't know". Going to change orthos if I need surgery in the future.
Sure hope you get some answers soon BIGMAN.

Default update

Looks like this darn internet thing is working after all. I discussed this with my doctor about this. He believes it most likely is Meralgia Paresthetica. The best thing he said I could do is just stick with the pain meds. The other treatments are not really worth the hassle.

Okay I just had to look it up to understand what it is. It is similar to what I have I get nerve ablations for it. You may want to think about getting corticosteroid treatments to help with the swelling and pain.
I know they have helped me in the past. They may help you too.

When you live with constant pain its hard to forget about. It really changes your life. Everything you do is with consideration of the limitations or the reprecussions. Maybe someday there will be a victory with both of us. I wanted to welcome you to the board ~~waves~~

You should see a Pain Management DR. A good one. Get online and research your area if you don't already see one. You very well could have RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) or now known as CRPS. Check out these sites and look at the symptoms listed. If you do infact have RSD "normal" pain meds will not work. You will need a neuro related med. I take anti-seizure meds that work as pain meds...

I have had RSD/ CRPS since I was 13 and am now 28 years old. I have it in my right toe, foot, leg, groin and lower back. I have tried NUMEROUS meds but am currently on Neurontin 4800mg,Tegretol XR 800mg, Tramadol 300mg, Effexor XR 75mg, Voltaren 400mg, (1) Lidoderm patch all daily. Which is less than in the past but my neurontin is wayyy more then it ever use to be. I have tried Cymbalta before I went to Effexor but I had too many side effects. I also tried Lyrica and seen GREAT results but you can't take more then (8) 75mg per day and was self medicating 16 daily. So I switched back to neurontin to be able to up the dosage.
I am currently having more break through pain and would love to talk to someone about some of the meds they have tried so I can discuss more options with my Drs.
I take the following for these reasons:
Neurontin - burning pain, tegretol - shooting pain in my spine & legs, tramadol-breakthrough pain, effexor- pain & depression caused by pain, voltaren - anti inflamatory, lidoderm patch - numb nerve pain in localized area.

Sounds like Sciatica pain to me....you can go to a deep tissue massage therapist and then to stretching...your doctor can provide you information sheets with pictures to show how to stretch and things not to do - if you have chronic inflammation you can take meds for inflammation to calm it down then definately do stretching on a daily basis. Some chiropractors can aslo relieve your symptoms/pain. Could be a muscle that is just too tight and needs released. Hope this helps.

Post suggestion for leg pain

May I suggest you go see dr. Heary in Newark N.J.? 973-973-2334. He saved my life. I was suicidal with pain from my neck into my arms and my back into my upper thighs. He was voted #1 for 3 years now as a neurologist and orthopedic. Carmen is the secretary. Try him as he is amazing and might help. No I do not work for him only got my life back because of him.
Good Luck
