It helps

It helps, but nothing for me takes away the pain, not the painkillers, not weed, nothing. These meds just help take the edge off a bit. In my opinion that is all I can hope for so I make the best of it.

In states where it is illegal and/or where one doesn't want to take a chance, one might ask their doc for a precription of marinol if their symptoms and condition permit such a medicine. It's generic THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, and will work pretty well. Try to get the highest dose, but don't drive on it.

Marinol was created for treating post-chemo issues such as nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. I don't know that it was ever intended or expected to be a painkiller. It does not contain the exact same compounds as medical marijuana which are recognized to help with pain.

legalization in Arizona is a joke

On us. yes, we will have legal Medical MJ but who will be able to smoke it? If you are on achss (Medicaid) you are given a choice - smoke pot - lose your Pain meds. The doc is so misinformed that they thought Marinol was Class 1 - wrong answer - it is actually a class 3 med. My poor doc. is scared to death and has told me that most P.M. doc's will not accept a positive test, even though you are legal by STATE standards. the reson - the DEA. The VA is no better. in spite of a letter by Undersecratary Peyson, the VA clinic gives you the same choice, this or that, What B.S. Also, Be aware that YOUR doc. may be monitoring this board - Believe it

law won't permit

I think it a shame to make people choose between their benefits and the relief from MJ. I have to keep my benefits to live, so there is no choice for me, I just won't be able to use it. I think the pain killers I take are far more dangerous and addictive than mj. In the end I had hoped reason would prevail, where the individual can decide for themselves what is good for you or not. Too bad our country has gone in this direction. It is another way to cut the budget, by doing this to all medicare/medicaid patients. This will get alot of people off the financial help of these agencies. I worked for my benefits, it is not a hand out. I still feel like a criminal, and this controll by gov. only makes it worse for people. Cutting the number of people receiving benefits is a goal of theirs. I am a burden to my family and my country being on dissability. My family will not help, and my gov. does not allow me enough to live where I do. My choices continue to diminish. ginnie

anyway, I found that marijuana helped a GREAT DEAL with chronic headaches and trigeminal neuralgia pains, as well as reduced pain and inflammation from tooth abscess.

Then I became a parent, and have not indulged since. I've frequently wondered if it might help the pain I am in now (from back injury) but am not willing to risk my family, etc, in breaking the law as it currently is here is Kansas.

I've heard on other boards, etc, that marijuana can be simmered in a fat based product like butter, to be used in recipes and similarly can be melted into a base for a topical application- which is more what would interest me, with less side effects than smoking or ingestion.

I've tried it, by smoking & I was able to cut my pain med usage in half, but when subjected to urine tests & it's illegal here in Iowa, I can't take the chance. Although am now having liver trouble from the meds, been diagnosed with RSDS since 1988, you'd think they;d come to their senses & allow the use of marijuana for pain management.

However if the aciencies find out they will drop your coverage, so it may not be worth the risk to most. My doctor didn't bat an eye and he certainly knows my history. I am a baby boomer so it is not like I didn't know about it in the past, but as an adult, it is quite a choice to make knowing how the law feels about it. I am still given my medications, and trust was not hurt with my physician as I told him the truth. Be careful out there to whom ever decides to participate. The laws are not good in these backward states. I would hate to be disabled, missing my 11 medications stuck in jail. That would be the ultimate bummer. Take care all of you. Ginnie:hug:there use to be a law of compassion in some states

Let's face it, our entire country is backward when it comes to treating pain. I live in a state in which it is legal to use Marijuana but I can't afford it and since I use the VA I can't get a script from them. I'm sick of the DEA dictating MY pain treatment. I've heard from many people that Marijuana does help with some types of pain. All you can do is try it.
