Default Marinol?

Just curious if anyone has tried this or knows anything about it for pain management. Thanks for any input! Best of luck to all of us!

AFAIK, at this time, PM is an off-label use for Marinol, and because of the current political climate many physicians (including PM docs) may be hesitant to prescribe it for that purpose. It's effectiveness for PM seems to be mixed; some patients have reported that it helps and others have reported that it actually makes their pain worse (I do not have any numbers or percentages).

You can learn more by googling: "marinol for pain management" (include the quotes)

HTH,

Doc

I am not surprised to hear that Marinol has produced mixed results relative pain mgt. I can't speak from personal experience but I have had friends who have tried it for nerve pain and several said the pain actually got worse.

I tried Marinol a few yaers ago, first against the nausea and vomiting caused by Duragesic (fentanyl patches), then for pain management. I had a book on which it is mentioned Marinol is no more effective against pain than codeine. I guess it depends on the person using it, because each person is not the same. For me, Marinol was quite helpful, more helpful than medical marijuana capsules.

My experience is that marinol is a poor substitute for medical marijuana in helping with pain. The compounds in marinol are the ones that are most helpful with nausea and vomiting, and most of the compounds that help with pain are not present. This is my understanding. I use medical marijuana for pain, spasms, and cramping.

I used it for a while while in chemotherapy and it didn't do anything for me then. I haven't had it prescribed for my pain managment so I don't know about its effect in that circumstance. It is unfortunate that our gov't refuses to legalize at least medicinal MJ for those of us in chronic pain. I don't get it. Best of luck.
