This musculoskeletal pain is called costochondritis, and the major symptom is major pain in the chest that mimics a heart attack, but its origin is in the breastbone. I must have lifted something too heavy, and now this is a daily pain. I was seen in the ER on wed just to be safe, and was told that iboprofen should help the pain. Sometimes it does. I just wish I knew how long this would last as I am under a "no heavy lifting" restriction for now. I do see my primary care for follow up on mon.

I had costochondritis due to inflammation during a pregnancy with one kid - 7th/8th month, very uncomfortable!
That same kid kicked and pushed on my ribs a lot too.

I had costochondritis when I was 19 years old- left me hyperventilating and terrified in the ER. I figured I was too young for a heart attack, but I have always been (medically) the exception to the rule- when something happens to only 1% of the population, I am that 1%....nevertheless, I just didn't know anything about what was happening to me except that it HURT. BADLY. They prescribed an NSAID called Dolobid, to which I had an allergic reaction, and then they gave 800mg Ibuprofen which did the trick. All in all, the condition lasted about 2 weeks, then gone. Every once in a while, 20 years later, I get twitches of pain, but never again like that night. Good luck! |
