That's a very thought provoking article. I wholeheartedly believe that emotional pain can also cause physical symptoms. I've got firsthand knowledge of it!

The article also talked about numbing your emotional pain and how that's not always good. I believe that.

When my husband passed away unexpectedly the doctor immediately prescribed something for me to help me during the first days. I think it was Paxil but I may be mistaken. Anyway, it numbed me all right. Numbed me to the point of nearly being a zombie. After several days of taking this med I told him I wanted OFF of it. I felt that burying the feelings of grief would only make it worse later on down the road. I needed to address those feelings and work through them....not cover them up. Maybe Tylenol would have been a better choice. In any event, I chose to go through it without meds and, although it was extremely difficult I think it's helped me be a stronger person today and helped me throughout my medical "issues" that crept up afterwards and that I deal with today.

Rejection, divorce, death......any event which causes hurt feelings and/or grief of any kind.......is hard to endure but I fully believe that addressing these feelings instead of hiding them underneath mind-numbing meds is necessary. Maybe folks should try the lesser potent meds first....they just might help.

They just did a news story here in my neck of the woods called "broken heart syndrome" and it spoke about how much pain can come from things like rejection, feeling judged, loss of a loved one, and how frequently our emotional state leads our bodies to produce chemicals that can cause pain, throw our heart out of whack, shut down immune systems, increase cortisol (stress hormones) and we tend to over eat or under eat.
