Default Mary Jane...you are right on the money

Hi MaryJane,
You have a great attitude....I agree with your "never say never" outlook.
Whether it is called a cure or remission or just plain old "Lyrica has been extremely helpful for yrs"..... we are all trying to move in the same direction and I don't think we need to split hairs about semantics.

I also agree nerve pain medications have alot of side effects but, I am grateful for the relief as well. I think it is a balancing act many of us struggle with when it comes to Lyrica. I hate the side effects and difficult withdrawal yet when the pain is bad I cannot function, I am glad I have something in my medicine cabinet to reach for that is specific to neuropathy. On my bad days I remind myself, not so long ago, pain mgmt was not a medical speciality and folks had nothing to turn to for pain relief. What did people do 100 yrs ago? I feel blessed to have my pain mgmt doc and he has been there for me for over 10 yrs and always willing to try anything to help me.
Take care and have a nice Thanksgiving.
Diandra

For me, I went from 100% healthy to crippling nerve pain overnight from a simple tiny cyst which was infected and burst and just irritated the tissues.
On the other hand never say never, I might actually be pain free one day on 0 medication, no one knows what's going to happen.
I am weaning off Lyrica as well right now and getting the hypersensitivity back...yes nerve pain medications have a lot of side effects, but I am still grateful they exist in the first place.

But I HAVE seen some post that they were on Lyrica for 6 months or more only to be able to wean off it and have a normal life again (no more pain)...is remission a better word?
There was also an isolated case of another lady being pain free from pudendal neuralgia after a series of nerve blocks...

Default Lyrica afterwards

long story short. I could not stay off my pain meds, am back on norco, oxyir, soma, lorazepam but because Lyrica was so hard to get off of, I have not gone back on it. Naturally, my neuropathy is bad.

On the plus side, I have taken off 10 pounds and am attending aqua therapy classes.

My question to those of you who have managed to get off Lyrica, do you experience a tightening, cramping feelIng in your body? I am experiencing a feeling like my nervous system is tightened, like the turning of a dial., like a taut guitar string and nothing makes that pain discomfort go away. My intuition tells me it is a side effect of coming off the lyrica and perhaps I should try to ride if out. Any experience or ideas? Thanks Diandra

Hi Diandra , nick here. Just came across your post. Came off Lyrica end of august beginning of September but effects continued . I can equate with the tight feelings even now. I saw a neurologsist recently who said that my last hospital experience of jerking about was the lyrica and that it did "strange things " to different people. That was beginning november. Not sure what it has done to me. Yes I have pre lyrica conditions but was not as bad as before hand.

Regards

Nick

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your update.
I have talked to several people who felt that tightening sensation. It feel like the entire nervous system going into a spasm or cramp.
I think you are fortunate to have found a neurologist who recognized it was the Lyrica withdrawal. As you and I have discussed before, often they just look at us as if we have gone insane. I am so glad to hear you did get off Lyrica but, not happy to hear there are still issues. I guess all we can do is pray they continue to diminish.

I wish you all the best Nick. Merry Christmas from the US!
Enjoy the time with your family. How lovely to have your children coming
around for the holidays.
Cheers, D.

Post Chelated Magnesium or SlowMag?

[QUOTE=mrsD;1045870]I have to pipe in here... magnesium oxide does not get absorbed appreciably. It remains in the GI tract as a laxative.

I think you'd get far more results with another type. A chelate or SlowMag, if you can get it where you are. Only about 8mg gets absorbed from mag oxide 400mg total weight tablets, according to new studies, and that is about what an egg has in it. You need about 360mg a day. Assuming you eat beans and nuts, you should aim for 200mg elemental from a supplement.

More about magnesium here on my informational thread:

Mrs D
Could you please tell me which magnesium you think is better for SFN and skipped heart beats? I have been using Doctors Best Chelated Mag ,100 mgs twice a day. I keep reading on here how SlowMag works just as well or better.
Is the Slow-Mag you suggest in this post a Chloride with Calcium? I'm getting ready to re-order Mag again, (I ran out). I see the SlowMag has only 143 mg of Magnesium per 2 tablet serving. Do you think thats enough? Or should I be taking more?
As always, Thank you for your comments and help.
Happy Holidays!
Marie
