First, Lyrica was developed as an alternative to Gabapentin, specifically targeted at the nerve stuff. Gaba was being marketed off label and FDA hit the firm with a huge fine, hence Lyrica. Now that piece of trivia apart, I have tried both & while Gaba + Amitrypiline did zilch for me, Lyrica was much much more effective and that too at a reduced dose.
