I finally got referred to my local NHS pain clinic the other week, and the doctor I saw was pretty dire. She wants to put me on lyrica, even though I had the most appalling withdrawal from gabapentin that went on for months. I think she may have denied that gabapentin withdrawal exists, or something along those lines. I'm having a bad day today which is slightly reminiscent of the hell I went through withdrawing from gabapentin, and I've realised that I really don't want to risk this. I have no idea what else is left for pain, I've been through so many drugs by now, and I am sick to death of being put on drugs that make me really ill (I have severe ME/CFS) by doctors prattling about how harmless the drug is. I don't have the option of a second opinion as far as I am aware.

You have every option. You have the choice to be referred to any Trust and any Hospital in the Country, your GP will send you to the most convenient.
Being in the UK you have the option of Lidocaine/Phenytoin Infusions and oral anaesthetics like Ketamine which MUST be prescribed by a PM Dr at a Hospital.
Your options are near endless, don't let them sell you short.

I suffer RSD/CRPS and favs really was nasty with me, lyrics was much better....... Go up doses slowly, my old go put me on 1800mg which is equiviliant to 3600 favs, which is a huge amount...... In most cases 300mg morning & night will help. Also take nortrytaline at night, but what has really helped is butrans 7 day patches.

Gabapentin was so bad that it was borderline an allergic reaction.

I take Lyrica, which works well. I don't like taking it, but the benefits outweigh the downside.

I'd say give it a shot unless you are so wary it doesn't feel correct. We all react to things so differently.

Can you tells us "What Hurts" & Where & When it Hurts and Bothers you?
Here in the USA, Gabapentin/ Neurontin is only ( I think ) FDA approved as an anti-sizure (anti-convulsant) drug that is used for preventing seizures and for treating post-herpetic neuralgia, the pain that follows an episode of shingles. and their has been so many Major Lawsuits for so much "off label prescribing it sickens me.
Doc's were handing it out for just about anything/everything that hurts and saying its good and it works. It was also given out in many, many state Prison's for the same reasons and now has been pulled.
So what were you given it for specifically? and by the way Newbie here and your my first post, answer.

For me - many years ago - a Neuro prescribed Gabapentin because the 'side-effects might help with Chronic Neuropathic Facial Pain and TN'.

One dose and a severe allergic reaction meaning a GP home visit and an ambulance to Hospital and I was done.

Did you know that Parke-Davis developed a drug called pregabalin as a successor to gabapentin. Pregabalin was brought to market by Pfizer as Lyrica after the company acquired Warner-Lambert. Pregabalin is related in structure to gabapentin.

I was on Gaberpentin and yes it is documented as being able to calm nerve responses I took 600mg nightly eventually went to 1500 nightly. But I found it had a depressing side effect, put on Lyrica fine so far. Also when local pharmacy had a supply problem I had 3 days of nothing and noticed a huge diff in pain levels. Oh btw I get on really well with one of the drs and she let slip they always perscribe Gaberpentin first as it is cheaper.

Hi Batik,

I used to take gabapentin but it killed my mood so I stopped it. Even with taper going off of it was difficult for me too. Don't know if you ever tried nortriptyline but I take a low dose now for neuropathic pain and it is helpfu for me.
