Im a girl of 19. Im a computer engg student and a dancer. Ive been suffering from a pain in the left side of the chest and left arm from a few weeks, which got worse in the last 4 days.Im not able to hold anything easily with the left hand. Im not able to breath normally. Every time I breathe in and out, Im having a stabbing kind of pain in the chest and at the same position at the back, my left shoulder till the fingers.Its even terrible when I force a deep breath. The pain is the same when I dance or don't. I consulted a chest specialist, got my ECG, Abdomen scan which showed normal. But a chest X ray showed "Hypertrophied C7 transverse process bilaterally". He said its a over growth of a bone, the pain might be a variation of spondylitis since I had no pain in the neck.and asked me to go to a neurologist. The neuro surgeon asked me to get X rays of the neck, and said everything is normal and just not worry. My parents internally feel irritated thinking im just making a small issue big, but im really not able to bear this pain. I don't know whom to consult. I really feel like dying. Please help me.

Not all pain has a source that can be seen on a scan, MRI or X-ray. It is frustrating for anyone of any age not to be believed but as a young person with pain, it must be difficult when your parents are doubting you.

My initial thoughts as I read your post...you said you are dancer....even a very tiny hairline or spiral fracture in a rib can cause alot of pain and when you said it hurts when you breath, that is what made me think of ribs. They are not always easy to see and if you are a tiny person, all that much harder. Or perhaps even some fascia or other soft tissue issues near a rib. I know you said the pain is the same when you dance or you don't but, have you given it a good long rest?
I am sure dancing is something you love but it seems to me, if in pain and you keep dancing and it is a dance injury, maybe you are just not healing and keep reinjuring the same spot? Just a guess.

Having a neurosurgeon say, just don't worry about it, obviously isn't very helpful.
Perhaps your primary care doc or find a pain mgmt doctor who can steer you to a good physical therapist, acupuncturist or massage therapist or reiki? I personally find pain mgmt docs dig a bit deeper to identify the source of pain and they know all the right health care folks to send you to help. You want to start looking at the least invasive things to handle pain....please don't start with a script for painkillers....massage therapy or physical therapy with a good therapist can help a great deal.

There is a subtle form of therapy called cranial sacral release that can be done by a massage or physical therapist. Read up on that. It is extremely subtle but yrs ago when my pain first started and I had minor spine issues and fascia issues, it helped me.
