Default Meds for fatigue from CP and meds?

Can anyone share their successful experiences with taking meds to combat the fatigue from chronic pain and pain medication. After the pain, the fatigue/lack of stamina are some of the most difficult symptoms for me. I have read of folks using Provigal, Ritalin, Nuvigil. Or, Maybe there is something natural to take?
Thanks, D.

Hi, I'm sure I'm much older, but deal with bodywide OA pain and a mess from hip replacement....I work with DRibose and extra potassium supps and potassium in foods in general. I don't buy that we get enough for our foods, I don't believe I do anyway....and potassium is a big one with energy issues. I have some posts in the vit/supp area on potassium.

If our potassium labs come in lower, but still in range, the docs don't even go there...we need to look at everything. I'm not saying overdosing either. But be aware.

Do you take any vitamins or supplements now? Which ones if so?

Of top of my head I'll mention B12 methylcobalamin - if you haven't seen it posted around the forums here..
I can personally say it is a positive energy boost for me.. and will last most of the day..

B12 is critical and so many, I'm sure are low, and I've known of many who even went for B12 injections. I think I did one of those years ago, but I take B12 methylcob daily for many years and my B12 levels are HIGH, but fatigue still continues and pain is chronic fatigue as I see it now later with all my issues. I was a ball of fire before menopause and I know thyroid is also big with fatigue...so many are mis-dx'd and under treated or not treated for sluggish thyroid...I was one of them for 10 miserable years from 1991 to 2002. Thyroid addresses some 60+ health issues.

Hi Jo,
I generally take plenty of vitamins and supps but I am woefully negligent in taking then routinely(I have memory issues and just dont always remember). I had even been going to an MD who specializes in holistic/homeopathic and had even been getting Vit C and glutathione IVs and B injections each week and they did help but very expensive. I told him I couldnt afford it anymore and he gave me a list of vits to take. I had been self injecting b12 for almost 6 months over a year ago.

also did a bunch of blood tests.

Caroline,
Doc also did blood tests and I was low for potassium and mag and Have been taking that. I was a bit low but thyroid was fine.

I am starting to think issue may absorption.

I end up drinking coffee every afternoon just to give me a kick to get through dinnertime.

Eva...I think of you all the time. Hope things are getting better.

Thanks for all the input.
D.

Another one I'm working with for a couple months now, is Pantothenic Acid B5 for adrenal support. I've taken so many adrenals over the last 20 yrs but finding the B5 works at this point ENOUGH. Some days I take 500mg three times per day. I like Jarrow's brand.

A friend told me years ago about dosing with Pant Acid and I did back then but let it go and went with adrenal support but now staying with B5. Read some on this B vit. Actually a lady who worked at Rainbow Acres heath food store here wrote a booklet on Pantothenic Acid and larger dosing, they called her the Pantothenic Queen. The dose on bottle says 1 per day but I take more as I've known about this for years. There may even be info on higher dosing. Check that out.

You can talk to your docs, of course. Some docs may help, some may not. BTW: 500mg might work good for some, but I know to take more...we do get B5 in some foods, but I don't depend on foods for what I need to work best.

I drink 1 to 2 cups of coffee daily but none after say 2:30PM...could mess with sleep.

So, just to ask again...there has been discussion if vits/supps but has anyone tried pharmaceutical meds for fatigue, and if so, any success? I do have a friend who uses Ritalin with success. thanks, D.
