Struggling with my chronic illness and pain and starting to get really depressed. I have been thinking positive but I feel like my body betrays me everyday. Feel broken and starting to feel worthless. How do you deal with a bad day?

I’ve read in the past , that an antidepressant rx also helps the pain meds work better too.

I was on Cymbalta but I've put on weight and I'm in the military and have to maintain a standard so I went off it.

If you feel you cannot take ADs due to side effects - although many do not have the weight gain issues - I would suggest you explore the Worlds of Therapy and Meditation. The former takes some organising and you need to find a Therapist you click with, the latter you can start practicing on your own, although classes bring very effective experiences.
Then you can always join us here on your own Thread on the Depression Forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum37.html It can be very therapeutic to write about your issues to fellow sufferers, and you will find a great deal of support there. I am sorry you find yourself in this situation. I do hope you are able to climb out of the Hole before it gets too deep. Dave.

Hi, I thought I'd share a bit with you. I went thru clinical depression from 1991-2002...at that time it was thyroid...did get on thyroid support in 2002. That long depression lifted. Then in 2006, a lowness came on and found how Vit D deficient I was, so got on D3 and brought up D way up.
2010 went thru a hip replacement and it's been a nightmare. I'm left with complications from that surgery and I can't shake my feelings and often anger and I don't want to take anti depressant drugs....I was almost in tears tonight knowing how I now live after this surgery. Everyone says, don't dwell, count your blessings, go on with your life, blah blah blah...I know all that but they don't walk or TRY to walk in my shoes. Anyway, I'm going to go back to work with 5HTP. I've used it off and on years ago and haven't for a long time. A friend takes it and when she is on it she feels so much more cheerful...it works with seratonin. Here is a good site explaining a lot. My friend says best to take B6 with 5HTP. I guess it may reduce our B6. I take P5P form of B6 anyway. It's otc at health food stores or online supp companies. My friend likes Thorne brand as it comes with B6. Maybe this will help you. http://www.everydayhealth.com/drugs/...roxytryptophan Read everything about it. |

I was telling my friend who deals with nasty CFS/ME for many yrs about that I'm going to start seriously with 5-HTP and she tells me this morning she's been taking it 12 yrs and thinking about it from my comments, thinks it's helped to get her thru all the years of CFS she lives with. So I kinda anxious to buy it this weekend. One needs to be sure to take B6 with it, so I'll bite a little piece of my P5P off when I take it. Altho, I do take 50mg P5P daily. COULD lift the serotonin, hope hope hope. I'll buy the 50mg caps to start with.
