Crazy RE: Methadone VS Opana ER

Hi Dana J, so do you like the Opana ER better than the Methadone irregardless of cost? Why I ask is I'm on Methadone 6x10mg a day.

Default Opana Er and others like it.

Hi All,

Opana, Avinza, Kadian are all morphine based medications. I was on Avinza for a while about 6 months and had a problems with it because it was affecting my teeth. The Avinza was stopping my saliva from producing and it was drying out my mouth hence causing a lot of decay so I had to go off it. . My dentist said you need saliva to ward off decay. I know that is one of the side effects of all the morphine based medications. It is ashame because it did work well but it was expensive and my insurance company started giving me a problem covering it.

I don't think it is off the market because my PM doctor asked if I wanted to try a different brand and he was going to recommend the Opana but I didn't want to take any chances because of my teeth.

Good luck and I hope you are feeling well.

Gabbycakes.

Hey Razzle ... It looks as though you have a lot of good info, but here's what
I got back from WebMD.

OPANA ER IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS OXYMORPHONE EXTENDED - RELEASE - ORAL

Please check it out until your heart is content by going to:
http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-1446...=Opana+ER+Oral

Hope it helps you, my friend.

I have plenty of it. Don't like it. Find all opiods after long term use changes your personality and just try and get off them. After 13 years (cancer, spinal cord damage, nerve pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis...) I am now getting off the last of my opiods and having a horrible time. Try accupuncture, or anything else you can think of. Trust me opiods are not the way. I am still trying to finish getting off the last lousy 15mg and it is horrible. They end up causing "rebound" pain. So it ends up being hard to tell which pain is from our conditions versus from taking too much drugs. Good luck don't suggest it. Fentanyl of all of them I found to work great and easy to get off of. Patches or the Actiq. Watch out for the Actiq-causes severe tooth decay. Good luck

Default

I went from Kadian 100 mg 3 x day to Opana 40 mg 2 x day, and its been about a month and its not working the full 12 hours, t constipation has decreased somewhat) but I can"t take Oc at all, makes me crazy, and this makes me feel normal and without pain meds go ahead and bury me alive because maybe I am not as strong as some of you, but I won't treat myself that way! In my case my beer swilling, pot smoking family trie(bus to make me feel like I am wrong for using them, but at least I have a reason for it and its not for a fun buzz! Its funny that I have no trouble getting along with people that are unaware I take pain meds, only the ones that know it try to convince me I have changed! They are right about one thing, I have changed, I went from a fun loving social person that used to be a damm good nurse and loved my job and feeling strong into a helpless cripple that has a hard time walking to the bathroom and that is what changed me, not the meds but the life that was stolen from me before my time! It tends to make me bitter, and since I am no longer fun loving I rarely get company so being alone for 90% of my life changes me as well! There are many things that factor in what changes someone and its not always pain meds when you don't abuse them, just find the right one that works for you so you can find the best quality of life you can! I don't mean to offend anyone but I think the meds that help us get a bad rap!
