It is oxymorphone and comes in a long acting version and is fairly new. I just took 5 mg per breakthrough and it seems pretty good a pretty fast. Wondered if any of you had tried it?

Glad to hear the meds helped you with breadthrough pain. I am in chronic pain and threrefore can't even think about a breaktrough med. My scrip is for 1 tablet 3 times per day before eating. (5mg. tabs). From what I read on the internet it seemed like it is used topically over the counter for itchng, etc. Am I wrong? Maybe this tablet form is something diferent. I just picked up the medcation and will begin trying it today. Wish me luck. This pain is really getting me down - especially now that it is spreading even more.

Are you taking the long-acting? There OpanaER, extended release. For chronic pain sometimes they put you on a long acting drug for round-the-clock pain and a short acting drug for breakthrough pain. Breakthrough pain is just extra pain as opposed to your normal pain.

I'm taking the short acting one on top of morphine.

Sounds like you're on the long acting. It really approved and hard to get much information but it's not connected to any topical analgesics. If anything it seems like it might be close to codeine, because they keep mentioning codeine sensitivity in reference to it, but it's a completely different opiate.

I'm into much pain to really say that it worked, but nothing is right now.

Thanks for your info on this drug. However, I am not sure if I have the same drug that you are using. The scrip said hydrocortisone but the bottle I received says "cortef). I don't see anywhere about extended release. Morphine does not work for me. You mentioned you used it in addition to morphine. Also, you mentioned about it may have codeine . UH - OH that makes me so sick.
I think I'll call the pharmacy tomorrow before I start taking this stuff. Don't feel like being sick all night.

You're on a steroid, which is like the over-the-counter itch premed is an anti-inflammatory but much stronger then something like Aleve. It's not an opiate or anything like that and it doesn't work on the brain and pain signals but on inflammation which could be the source of your pain and often is.

Doctors sometimes use hydrocortisone instead of prednisone when they
suspect low adrenal functions. It is considered a physiological dose when used

Thanks for the infor on the hydrocotisone. It appears that it is a steroid but maybe not as strong as prednisone.????/
Anyway - my family Dr. prescribed it as he knows I have tried everything else and nothing has worked to help the pain for the FM andRSD. However, my pain specialist says he does not think I should take it because of the side effects. Now I am "in the middle". I certainly don't need any other medical conditions. I already have enough problems. However, the pain is getting worse and spreading - now the FM is in my knees and ankles. (was on my feet too long-only walking around the house- and it set it off). Very frustrating.
I guess I should check out the side effects on the internet. Gosh - I just want to get rid of this pain. It is so miserable and disabling. I may take the risk.
