Six yrs, ago at Mayo clinic, they had to sever my trigeminal nerve. I am left with Anesthesia Delorosa. This is a pain on the left side of my face that will be with me the rest of my life. It is kinder on some days and absolutely agonizing the next day or even the next hour. My face is numb from the left part of my forehead to the edge of my mouth. My first shower at home I felt like half my face was gone as the water sprayed down. I got out and ouickly looked in the mirror to make sure it was there. I began sobbing in my husbands arms. I
screamed WHY, WHY, WHY? I just wanted to go back to the person that I use to be. We found a pain management Doctor here in town. He did nerve blocks and loaded me up with Oxycontin. For the next few months, I was living in a fog. We shopped for a new pain management Dr. The next thing I knew, the new Dr. had me sucking on Morphine suckers and put me on methadone. That was a disaster. Finally we heard of a Phychologist that had previously been associated with Mayo. We made an appointment, although it was a two hour drive. The driving didn't bother us really, not if this man could help me. He had no drugs to peddle. He was a very soft, kind man. His name is is Dr. Jim Lemons and he has taken me me from a neurotic, crying, scared person to one who has a plan for the pain. He has made some tapes for relaxation and it's sort of a self hypnosis. Relax and put images in your mind of something you like to do, something very pleasant. Close your eyes and start telling different parts of your body to relax. Send yourself on a mini vacation in your mind. I know I survived the storm. Blessings, Doodle bug7 |
