Hi! My name is Magen and I live in VA. I just found out on Friday March 1st that I have a Colloid Cyst in the 3rd ventricle. I am 22 years old. I'm very nervous since I have never had any real health problems prior to this. The way I found out was I had a complex migraine which cause the left side of my body to go numb. I went to the ER and had a bunch of blood work done and a CT. The told me everything looked good and sent me on my way home. I got home about 6:15 am and finally went to sleep only to receive a phone call from the hospital at 8:30 am.
They told me they had reviewed my CT again and said that I had what looked like a calcification at the base of my skull that was blocking my spinal fluid. I thought to myself ok I can deal with that they will just go in and shave off the excess and all will be well. Little did I know that Friday I would be pacing the floor of the NS office waiting for him to review my CT and give me his thoughts for treatment on a Colloid Cyst not a calcification. My whole family is stressing about this and I would like to be able to give them some in site of others that have gone through this. If you guys could please welcome me with open arms and give me some in site it would be greatly appreciated. I am walking around now getting looks like I need to be at home with a helmet on. Also if you could let me know if you experience any numbness of the left limbs. I seem to go numb on my left side quite frequently now. Thank you!! Magen |

Hi Magen,
I had a colloid cyst removed Nov 2000. I had a pretty long recovery, but am doing very well today. This site is very good, as well as the BrainTalk Communities Forum, but neither have a lot of traffic. One specific site I recommend is on FaceBook. The site is very active with almost daily posts. You might check it out. Keep asking questions, and keep searching for answers. There was nothing like this when I had my surgery. There is a wealth of information on Colloid Cysts on the internet. I wish you the best, Dodi |

Megan,
I had a colloid cyst removed in 2011. The one I had was rather large for this type of cyst. With that being said I was in the gym days after my release. Keep in mind the cyst made me violently ill and I spent 21 days in the hospital and ended up having to have two surgeries. I had a lot of pressure in my brain because the 11cm cyst acted as a cork between the ventricles and my head slowly filled with spinal fluid over time. So as you can imagine the relief I felt when it was gone. My only problem I'm dealing with now is depression and moodiness. But that could be any number of things. |

I actually have an appointment Tuesday with a new NS to find out what he thinks we should do. Yes I do have a Colloid Cyst and I do not plan on delaying any treatment seeing as I am so young and will have the ability to hopefully bounce back from it sooner. Thank you for your help with this situation and I will post what the Dr says on Tuesday. |

Can you please tell me how long it was between the time they found it and when you had it removed?
I was told yesterday morning that I have a 3-4 cm colloid cyst, but I don't know anything else. Thank you, AndieB |
