Hoping to start a conversation related to a recent incidental finding via CT scan. My wife was told she has what appears to be a colloid cyst 2cm x 4cm (rounded up, but not much). Neither of us has any medical background.
After the CT scan she was sent for MRI w/contrast(?)...w/in two ours of the scan on Friday at noon, the physician's office called to tell her she had to schedule ASAP appt for Monday morning. I got home to find her in tears and scared to death. Waiting until Monday 7/1 for news of what is so urgent in MRI. Completely lacking knowledge about what she might face (and she will avoid internet, Google searches, etc.), just posting w/couple of questions and to see what kind of response I might find. Thank you. A. 2cm/4cm...do colloid cysts get any bigger? B. Can minimally invasive procedures be used for cysts this size? C. Anyone here have familiarity w/cysts of this size? Just trying to get the ball rolling, that I might have somewhere I can turn to after we leave the consult on Monday and a million new questions hit us... |

Hi,
I had a colloid cyst removed Nov 2000. The size, my Neurosurgeon wouldn't tell me. He just said it was the largest he had ever encountered and that I was lucky to be alive. This is a very scary diagnosis and surgery. Please refer back thru the posts here and gain as much information as you possibly can. Also I suggest the BrainTalk Communities as this Site is a former Branch of that one. If you have any questions, fell free to ask. I check in every few days and will respond if you need info. Take Very good care, and please research the internet for additional information. Dodi colloid cyst removed Nov 2000 |

Thanks for responding...
Glad you are enjoying long term success and hope you never go through the process again. May I ask if you had hydrocephalus? If so, did you have to address that, or simply remove cyst? -I'm new here, so I don't know if such a personal and intimate question is out of bounds... As it turns out, a follow up MRI w/contrast or whatever showed that original suspicions about cyst on roof of third ventricle is actually a neoplasm of floor of third ventricle w/growth into thalami, brain stem and basal ganglia. Obstructive hydrocephalus/ventriculomegaly in 3 of 4 ventricles are also indicated on second MRI. From all I've learned, what I wouldn't give for diagnosis to go back to colloid cyst. -Please don't be offended. After all you have been through, I hope you can appreciate what I am saying. Scared s-less. Initial consult w/major medical center w/in 48 hrs. May look into brain talk communities after diagnosis gives us more. I obviously jumped the gun w/colloid cyst... Quote:

Hello, I am new to this. I only decided to google for something about Colloid Cysts, that cause hydrocephulus and having a permanent shunt implanted. I have continuous memory problems. Sometimes I can remember something that was said or happened, then the next day I do not remember anything. Why would I remember sometimes and then not? I can watch a show on TV, then 30 minutes later I have no memory about what happened on the show. This does not happen every day, just some days. Has anyone else had this happen to them? It is causing alot of problems for me with my family. They do not understand why I don't remember some of the things I say or do. Could it be that sometimes the fluid has built up too much and has not drained yet? I do have days where I wake up with a Headache and it will stay with me the entire day. Nothing I take will get rid of it. I just need something to explain why I am sometimes stupid and then sometimes I am not stupid. Please help me, someone. |
