Question Irene... potential impact on Neurotalk servers?

Hi everyone, and especially Doc,

Do you see a likelihood this storm could bring down Neurotalk (via power outage, flooding, etc)?

I couldn't connect for a minute (faulty connection my end... whew), but my first thought was, "ACK! Irene has taken down Neurotalk!!!" Then, having sorted out my connection, i saw from the satellite view on weather underground that Irene's outer fringes are already creeping up on Massachusetts.

Not knowing where the servers are located and whether there might be backup generators, i have to wonder if Neurotalk might, at some point, go *POOF* for a while.

Maybe it seems like a stupid question... but then, i was taught that the only stupid question was the one not asked.

while i'd love an answer like, "our servers are titanium-vaulted 18 feet underground with 18 backup generators ," i will be happy with any feedback you can provide. at worst, i realize you might not be in a position to venture a guess. that's ok too.

thanks very much in advance for whatever info you can offer.

I can't speak for the Internet at large (since a lot of important Internet infrastructure resides on the East Coast, despite the network's hypothetical redundancy), but our servers are in Dallas, Texas. We chose that spot for some very good reasons, a few of which are its predictable climate, in-land, and because it's geographically centrally located in the U.S.

So you shouldn't have to worry about us... we should be fine! Just take care of yourselves...

Best,
DocJohn
