Don't forget to check and see if you're eligible for a Refund of the Federal Telephone Excise Tax
I meant to post this earlier, but, I've been having problems with my computer. If you paid federal telephone excise tax on long distance or bundled telephone service billed to you after February 28, 2003, and before August 1, 2006, you may be entitled to a refund of the federal excise tax. If you don't still have your phone records, you may request a default amount ($30) which comes in handy if you're living on a Social Security Disability Income check. (1) http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/...164032,00.html -- About the Refund of Federal Excise Tax (2) http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/...169091,00.html -- Additional information about the Refund of Federal Excise Tax If you have Adobe Reader installed on your computer, there is a simple form that you can fill out, if you do not file a tax return: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040ezt.pdf. You enter your name and address, your social security number, your bank routing numbers, and request $30. Very simple and very rewarding ![]() If you do file a tax return, you can find links to the appropriate form on the page (1) above. Barb PS: I realize time is short. I just filed mine at the end of last week. It is possible to request an extension for this refund. See the instructions in (1) and (2) above. This applies to landlines, cellphones, fax machine -- any kind of phone-type service that included long-distance. |
