Kimmydawn,
I have only met a few of the Moderators here..but I would like to express my thanks for the wonderful job you "all" are doing...
I like the fact that questions are answered in such a pleasant
" tone"..instead of a harsh one as on some other sites...Lisa

lisa,

That's my main goal. One can disagree, even argue, with respect.

It's about respect, understanding and appreciation, I think.

Even when carrying out administrative actions, even bans, there will never be disrespect by me. I feel the same about the moderation team in using respect and appreciation even with direction and actions.

IT CAN BE DONE. :) I've worked that way for two years now, and will continue to.

Well, you're definitely good at it, Kimmydawn. You have a good way with words and with dufusing tense situations. I've seen it several times already.

I just want to add that while I was not one of the people involved in this particular situation on the other board...This board is getting a lot of recognition for being fair with members in the way you handle disputes with members or among members.....I think and it is my hope that others will recognize that members are treated fairly and privately rather than arbitrarily and harshly. I think if things keep on as they are on some of the other forums on the Internet, not just BT but many others...This board will take off just as BT did and become just as popular with people...Many people have not returned to BT..so maybe they will find a home here eventually...

I know I am recommending this place to as many people as I can...They like the mission statement and find it a little more people friendly here...I think the fact too that Doc John is willing to make certain the board is not going to crash is a plus too....Here again when we tried to warn of impending doom at the other place we were hushed and warned about keeping quiet... threads were locked...only days before the fall ...so to be able to have freedom of speech without fear of being banned is a real plus...now I promise not to bring up the other place again..

The kind words and comments warm my heart. I need that right now.

Thanks ((((((((((((( all here ))))))))))))))) *for those who don't mind hugs*

Respectfully,

KD

Disclaimer! I am answering you as a member not as a mod ;)

Hi Lara
thankfully, I think most members here dont have that opinion, ie that there is something wrong with someone who continues to use OBT. Even some of our mods are comfortable using both boards as members, and admin has no problem with that:)
In fact, many members do post on both, and I fully agree with you that no-one should ever be made to feel uncomfortable for doing so, nor should anyone feel that they have to choose between the two, especially now that we here at Neurotalk have a new name and are evolving into a unique community.
The more support and info one can get and give...........the better!:p

I'd like to agree with Chemar here, and say I feel the same way Kimmy does when I see the feedback.

The way I like to look at things (not as a moderator or even a member, but as me - a real person sitting here with a name) is that for every community out there is atleast one person who was given the support they needed. I like to believe these communities are built for just that reason, and that should always be a priority.

I live one block from one Ralphs and then 1/4 of a mile down the street is another. It's the same store, but sometimes the other one down the street has something the first one doesn't. I visit the closest one once a week at most, but frequent the other to get additional things.

I'm the same way with forums, while I am mainly active here - I still visit other forums and post on some where I feel that I can give or get the support desired. It's hard to shut me up sometimes, I'm guilty of babbling. But sometimes within those babbles, people find new information.

The past two weeks, I had three people tell me in one way or another how something I'd done or said helped them. Them saying that helped me. Those events happened here, and it keeps me going when I have a bad day. I also had someone on my.epilepsy.com help me in a way I needed more than ever.

You go where your friends are, and you go where your home is. You can never have too many friends, and I think the same applies for 'homes'. You should never feel out of place, or as if something is wrong with you for doing that.

Sorry for babbling, I'm a nervous wreck today!

In summary, you can have as many homes as you like in this world. It's like being rich and having lots of vacation homes! :D

I very much agree with all that has been expressed here..I "personally " choose to read and post on many sites..as there are all different types of information, suppport and dialogue..that I'm intrested in participating in and following...
However, I do feel the moderators "here" do a fantastic job..as I feel the warmth in their replies...I like the manner , respect and tone of the replies...thanks again..Lisa

Chemar 10-25-2006 01:49 PM

thank you Lisa:)

It really means a lot to us to have the members notice that we care and are here to help, not hinder.

We do understand why many are nervous of moderators and sure hope to continuously be able to reinforce that this place that DocJohn and Kimmy have provided for us all is a safe haven.

Even if we dont all agree all the time, people should be able to respectfully, honestly and openly dialogue with other members, AND with us mods:p

That is IMHO what makes NeuroTalk special!

"We do understand why many are nervous of moderators and sure hope to continuously be able to reinforce that this place that DocJohn and Kimmy have provided for us all is a safe haven."

This is so true. We do have safety limitations being online, but much more safety in some ways than we have in real life. There are those limitations wherever we go.

That said, Doc John has close to 15 years experience working online and developing the safest atmosphere possible techically and emotionally...in a general sense. He also gives us great tools for managing our emotionally safety and experiences while here. That's not just something he's done for this forum. That's just Doc John's style. :) It's a practice that I jumped on and work with in my role as well.

I firmly believe in showing respect in actions at all times. I might disagree with you to the point where I say, "Well, I'm making this decision with your input greatly appreciated, but based on the community guidelines I still need to do what I feel is best in my position and considering the entire community." There are great ways to show disagreement without showing disrespect.

I have an opinion, and we all have opinions. We might not agree and most assuredly won't at times. ;) It doesn't mean any opinion is better than the other, one is right and the others are wrong, etc. Our opinions are truths we've acquired for ourselves based on our life's experiences and learning. We are different and extraordinary in our own ways and our unique situations have brought us together to share and suppport.

Due to the uniqueness and capabilities of individuals and the greatly varied opinions, personalities, beliefs, etc., we have the community guidelines and TOU (which have been specifically put together for this particular community and its members) that we ALL use as a guide which, when it comes to moderation, sets aside alot of opinion as well as personal opinion and beliefs. :) Action, and direction, is based on the TOU and guidelines as opposed to opinion, mood, likes, dislikes, etc., and it is done privately and with respect.

On the other hand, KD the member has alot of experiences, opinions, beliefs, likes and dislikes that I like to share...respectfully. :)

KD
