Hi Gang,
I am just wondering where everyone post their experiances with education options. Not only for disabled, physically but mentally from elem. to College. I have a child ACT 504 Americans disability Act for accomadations in education. Since Jan this is dragging with the school system. They fought home schooling. After diagx of PTSD and school-aphobia from bullying I could not get her into the school without severe anxiety and panic attaks. She is seeing a therapist reluctantly. I paid for tutoring for awhile and then enrolled her onling at www.time4learning.com She is not very dedicated to daily time on the computer. She does have her books home, they stopped sending homework two months ago. She reads them, but states that the current online program is far to elementary for her. I am looking for others experiance for home learning experiance. Especially if they use the pa cyberschool, or pa chartercyber school. Thanks so very much for tips, experiances and links. My daughter is a straight A student and high sores on achievement testing. Her disability is the emotional not ADD, ADHD, autisim or other. The school is going to do an IEP. The point she is at now is like agroaphobia.... di

Hi Di
![]() I get sooooo irked when schools fight *against* the very students they should be helping ![]() IEP is usually for learning disabilities etc but the 504 covers more of the illness and or emotional issues for which accommodations are needed My son benefited enormously from the 504 plan accommodations for his Tourette syndrome and after the Crohn's dx, he was able to carry it over to the Florida Virtual school which we were overall very impressed by. It is fully your right to homeschool, especially with the issues you have described I got a lot of great info from the Tourette Syndrome association re my son's rights within the education system and tho I realize your daughter isnt TS yet you may find some info there http://www.tsa-usa.org/educ_advoc/education_main.htm my PM box is open if you have any questions ![]()

Thanks Chemar for sharing your experiance. It feels like a cyber hug to have a compasionate ear. As Mom's we carry such burdens to make sure our kids are taken care of properly. Truancy was a huge issue the jerk called a principal was threatening instead of accomadating.
I am so glad that I hired the Advocate the $177 was well worth it as she really knows her stuff and they could not pull anything over with her. A tough cookie and Godsend. For anyone in need in North East PA, her name is Linda Holgate, factoryville, Pa. di

I'm glad you are getting a IEP, she definately should qualify.
And there are lots of ways to do a program at home, so it really doesn't take much for the school especially with a very smart kid. Especially if they will apply themselves to the work they are given. I'm a parent advocate in INdiana and I'm one for the state agency. We are free to our parents. Donna |

So glad to hear that you are sharing all of this info. for parents terribly worried for and about the education of their special needs children.
Virtual schooling sounds like a good possibility. What avenues/help/resources are available for after high school? College...trade school? Going to college, even a community college often means the same roadblocks. |
