we cleared cookies

on our main computer...and it did not affect passwords.
I think I titled this wrong... we cleared the CACHE.
We had a lot of problems last Dec which turned out to be
a crashing router...which was working sometimes and sometimes not.

During that time to find why I was stalling on the net,
we cleared the CACHE to see if that would help. It did not
affect my passwords.

Sometimes one can be viewing an "old page"... when our router was
not working, it typically gave me old cached pages...When you clear
the CACHE those should go away. I think clearing the CACHE may be
more useful for you.

Can you find what you want by going to the member name in the members list?
then click on their posts or threads?

How to clear your web browser's cache
[In order to speed up web browsing, web browsers are designed to download web pages and store them locally on your computer's hard drive in an area called "cache". The cache contains a kind of travel record of the items you have seen, heard, or downloaded from the Web, including images, sounds, Web pages, even cookies. Typically these items are stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

When you visit the same page for a second time, the browser speeds up display time by loading the page locally from cache instead of downloading everything again. This sometimes results in less than current versions of web pages being displayed. When the cache fills up, performance can slow down and your hard drive may run out of space.

You should periodically clear the cache to allow your browser to function more efficiently. If you believe that you have a less than current version of a page, please see the following steps listed below to clear the cache in your browser.]

For member /name search I think you have to be sure to spell and capitalize the name just as they have it on the forum.
ex - mebp vs Me BP or MeBP or Me BP?

did you try the advanced search part too?

hmm I just experimented - the reg search doesn't seem to fill /drop down the name if you get it close , like the advanced search does.....

you know before the upgrades

I tried to search one of the Welcome committee... and got that box. That is the "banned" box. (the box that comes up when someone's name is taken off the active list or whatever). That was using the default style.

I knew she was still posting, but I could not access her file for a LONG time. Now it seems fixed. I almost reported it, but it didn't seem important at the time. I tested it again now in both skins (I use Spring now), and I can find her no problem.

Perhaps it is the skin you are using?

I'd try using the refresh button and trying the search again.
At least you are now getting a different prompt.

thanks
well how I try to search sonmeones posts is by clicking on their name...so I am not typing in their name...and up comes the options of choices...email or PM or blah blah blah.
so I click on search posts.
I jsut tried changing my skin from tulip that I use to default...which is not letting me switch...so something si wrong with my side of things.
I like the tulips so that is fine...I really wanted to search out some posts for BJ....
sigh

I think you need to be on the main forum index page or your user CP page to change skin styles successfully.

bizi 07-14-2008 10:46 PM

by goig to the user cp I was able to change my tulip to default...but still getting the notice....going back to my tulip...sigh

Hi Bizi
I have tested this a number of ways, with different skins and also using a member ID not just my admin one ....I cannot replicate this message and feel it must be something related to your browser settings/cookies etc:confused:

have you tried searching posts from the member profile and are you still getting the same message that way?

DocJohn 07-15-2008 08:24 AM

I made a change to the forum's options that should fix this issue for you... Let me know...
