Default 403 Forbidden error

Hi all,

Maybe someone can help here. For some reason when I try to access this site normally I get a 403 Forbidden error; in order to even read posts I have to access via a proxy.

I'm in the UK and my ISP is Sky . . . anyone have any ideas?

A Net relay, router or DNS might be down, which could temporarily interrupt access from, i.e., Point A (where you are), Point B (somewhere in-between) and Point C (NT Forums).

You might want to give it a day or so and see if the problem resolves on its own.

P.S.: Are you having a similar prob. with other U.S. domain-hosted sites you've tried accessing?

Sorry, I should have mentioned this before - I've been getting the error every time I tried to access this site from at least a couple of weeks ago, though I haven't tried every day so it could be sporadic with me unlucky.

I don't have a problem with any other US hosted sites, in fact this is the only site I have the problem with.

My totally not techy guess was that perhaps someone with my server had been given a ban wide enough to block it all . . .

Sorry, think I said "server" there when I meant ISP.

I'd contact Sky and bring the prob. to their attention so that it can be remedied.

My mistake: A 404 Error would lead me to think that some link between your server and this one could be temp. down.

A 403 is a blanket no-go by your ISP.

It could be a tech. issues that can be resolved through Sky rather quickly.

P.S.: If your computer is firewalled, and it should be, make sure that permissions to visit NT are set to okay - that there isn't something within the firewall blocking access. Set NT as a safe site or safe zone, as well, if you have anti-virus surfing protection activated.

Yep we're firewalled, but (long story short) it would be a whole hassle for me to get the permissions changed or even looked at, especially as things are working fine so long as I stick with the proxy.

If it's most likely on Sky's end I'll either give them a call or leave things as they are - it was more of a wonderment really, as I can now get on here fine.

Ta for the input though!

There is a good reason why you might want to go ahead and contact Sky: You may be helping other people who have the same ISP and who cannot access NT if there is a blanket block negatively affecting access to the forums.

Never do know who you could be helping...

that's a good suggestion. And see if the glitch is fixed perm. vs. temp
