If we can't get NeuroTalk, which I like best, how about:

BrainMatters.org
or
BrainBoards.org
or
TalkingHeads.org (lol, )
or
NeurologicallySpeaking.org
or
BrainFamily.org
or
BrainTalkToo.org

Don't know if any of these are available; not sure how to check

Lightbulb May I make a suggestion?

Hello everyone...and you too, Doc John.

I have just returned from my summer hiatus in the boonies with no
computer/electricity/TV etc. Getting back into the techno world is rather
difficult this year for me ...sigh!

But I have a suggestion here. I have tried to read as much as possible, but so far have not completely caught up with events.

I had been a member of OBT (Original BrainTalk) since 1997 or so. In those days it was a NEURO board ..and when the second incarnation arrived and more
members signed up, many diverse other health issues began to be important there, and slowly many other boards were added that were not strictly
neurological. OBT BEGAN in the department of Neurology at MGH as a project.

If this board is to remain, and I get the strong feeling it will, then I suggest a name for this venue that encompasses more health care in general than just neurology. Certainly many disease states do impact on the neurological system, (like diabetes, and cancer) but basically they are disease states with multiple issues. Issues like hypertension and arthritis are also very common and important today, and are not primarily neurological.

Looking ahead a bit, I think that this board can grow into a NEW entity, and as such encompass crucial healthcare issues today.
One example is preventive medicine in which I am very active.

So putting a "neuro" type name out there, sort of "limits" the scope of this venue, esp for those who are using search engines. I do however, enjoy this thread, and think many of the names are very creative and easy to remember.
Naming I think is a tough task...regardless of WHAT we have to name .

I also would like to request a Vitamin/Mineral Deficiency forum to be added here. This is my "specialty" so to speak, and very important today since many drug treatments deplete nutrients as a side effect from therapies. That forum at OBT became quite active in the last year, with many people coming from
the other boards to share their questions, and discoveries. (Lyme, PN, MS, Gluten, etc). Having a "home" for the topic gives and information base so that the same data need not be repeated on separate forums, and can be linked to and save bandwidth. So if possible, I'd like to request that forum.

It is obvious that Doc John is active here, and it is a pleasure to see something new beginning. Thank you again, sir, for your time and interest in all of us!

Default What's In A Name?

I personally would not change the name....I had a Yahoo board for the Tarlov cyst....Somone convinced me that the format for that board was difficult to use and that since the Tarlov cyst is rather rare I should tweak the name and switch to a different board too...Since I was paying monthly for the Yahoo board I dumped it....We were having a problem with people not posting much anyway..I switched to a different type board and changed the name to include spinal problems....I lost most of the membership and people are still not posting....The membership is growing slowly, but people still do not post....

I think people were very excited initially when they saw this board and thought it was the original Braintalk...As they slowly or quickly realized it was not, just another board that looks very much like BT....the excitement faded somewhat....but truthfully what is the big deal with using BT2 and using both boards?..Braintalk posters feel a kinship of some sort...There is no match or board like it on the Internet.. It is "magic"...I am certain you would all agree....There are many that would like to "clone" it...but they cannot..I cannot on my own boards and I am a very, very, nice person and intelligent too..(I know, I know...I should not be saying that about myself, but it is true and those that know me will tell you that about me and I agree.)...I do not know what the mix is on BT or why people feel so comfortable or at on home on BT, but it cannot be duplicated, so to close this board and to start another just because the original starts up again is silly...

It can be another safe haven for those to come to when BT is down again and it will be....How many times has it happened before?..I know people repeatedly e-mailed me asking me for the name of the board people went to when BT was down..People believed there was a board for us to go to when BT was down....So what is wrong with BT2...Some of you have stated publicly that you are more comfortable here anyway.....For some reason many of us tried to warn John and the moderators of the impending crash, but our threads were locked and we were threatened with banning if we brought it up again, so it was weird...People were hesitant to post at first, but little by little you are coming around and posting....Why? I think, because you need the comraderie of very old friendships. Many of you go back to the beginning of BT...I do not, but have made many friendships none-the-less....

Many, many of us use more than one board, don't we? I know I do...I have two boards of mine own and visit probably ten boards...I do not visit them every day as I do have a family and a life off of this computer, but I do visit about ten boards....

BT is not back up....I am not getting a message when I go to the address page...I do not read this board everyday to determine what is going on...so maybe I am not up to date on the new launching date, but this board should keep the name BT2....This was a nice gesture by John...He saw a need and he acted on it...We are familiar with the format....Why cause him more work and us too?...Let things be as they are....John has not gained anything from starting this board..... I do not think anyway...He has not gained instant wealth and fame.... Any number of us would have jumped on it if that were the case...The responsibility of running and maintaining a board, any board, but especially this board is monumental.

John has already been attacked publicly for starting the board....Some think he has alterior motives...and while some of us might have thought it, others did not hesitate to post their thoughts about his motives for the board publicly.....I do not know John... but, I certainly hope his act is sincere in just wanting to help people....There are many, many people that need this board....It is their lifeline to the outside world...There are many that are elderly, ill, need advice on surgery; pre/post-op, medicine, disability, etc., they might be suicidal, or something simple...We have all been there at one time or another..I know I have been...and I am thankful to John Lester for providing it....but am just as thankful now that John has put up this board as well....I say leave things as they are....You did a good thing....You meant no harm....No one would have ever found this place had you put up any other name....in all honesty....This can be home too...BT2! What's in a name?

I agree with GJ.

I've seen boards change when there was excitement to change, but the membership tended to go down because not everyone followed the change.

Always there was a loss of members.

In terms of BT, they were in existence a long time and sure felt that members were expendable.

I hope that members here are valued more. They seem to be.

Default name & such

I wanted to remind all that BrainTalk.org has not been the name of John Lesters forums from birth. It changed to currant name several years ago. I see no reason to have such a to do about whatever Dr. Grohol decides to use. He has been very kind and caring to all of us.

Yes, he did get some ugly things said to him, but he was always gracious about it.

I have been to the Psyche Central site and suggest others go also. He has so very much going it takes some time to get the gist of it all. I'm still digesting "the gist". Check out all he has available and you will know he did not "steal anything"!!

I believe I read someplace that Dr. Grohol started his sites in 1994 or "95. I don't think anybody that checks Psych Central out could clearly see he did not take on someone elses work.

Whatever the name, I intend to stay Thank you Dr. Grohol! JJ

the subject has been mentioned before....on bt1 there were many unused forums. why add and add and add? there are already many successful health type of boards that have just about everything listed.

from reading the posts on this board, it seems to me that the social, support and offering information are important. not just a fact finding site.

jmho. the name isn't that important...as long as it doesn't end up brainfart.org. i think granola liberal might already have that domain.
