Lightbulb I c e- in case of emergency

I C E- IN CASE OF EMERGENCY:

Apparently this is a standard procedure all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone.

ICE - "In Case of Emergency"
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.
If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Campaign
The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell(mobile) phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name "ICE" ( In Case Of Emergency).
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if the re was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as "ICE."
For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference!Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!
Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest..
ICE will speak for you when you are not able to.

On my cell {and other family cells} we have our home phone number under "home" instead of a someones name.
and my parents number is under "mom & dad"

one time I found a cell in a store and looked at the contact names and one said Dad's house - so i called it from the phone and was able to let them know that I found the phone and where they could pick it up at the store.

But the ICE is a good idea then the rescue personnel could just look for ICE and the numbers would come up.

Sheesh, I wish someone would find MY cell phone and give someone a call. I lost it last Saturday at the airport. I've replaced the phone, but miss all those phone numbers. *sigh

Yes, Tena, I have ICE numbers in my new phone. Very good idea.

Default Hummmm? I'm still in the 'paper age' or dark age...

but will be getting my toes wet soon w/cell phones tho.
I DO carry at all times tho a one page sheet that has the following info:
Name & Date list was made [so no other key identifying info is on it?]
Medical Conditions: Each 5 words or less w/date of onset or surgery or
whatever...
Prescription Medications: Med; how often taken dose per pill and for
which 'condition'
Supplements: Which ones, for what issues, dosages & how often
Physicians: Who, speciality and phone #'s
Personal Emergency Contacts
Other notes...such as recent changes in meds and why....

This sheet is invaluable! Lots of my docs really like it as I update it often and they can see what changes have occurred from point X to point Y. [I give each a new copy every office visit. Also, they can see what-if any- new issues have cropped up and who is seeing me about them. Also, it sure beats filling out by hand all meds on THEIR forms! Like you remember right? This way, it's ALL THERE.

It is hard to keep it all on ONE PAGE? But shrinking print and expanding margins can help. While it may be only the shortest version on that one page, it does give an ER, say, clues as to who to call to get the full picture, should I not be able to communicate. Also, in a hospital afterwards? It avoids mis-medications or medicating with stuff you are allergic or get reactions to... THEY HAVE IT IN PRINT! They goof? THEIR problem! Well, you get the gist... Hope this helps! Keep faith and hope always! - j

PS Gonna have to learn about ICE on a cell and very soon... That will be a frustrating experience, as I'm 'button' challenged w/my neuropathy!

This is a great tip. After hearing it about a year ago, I had my entire family put ICE after the names of people in their cell phones who should be emergency contacts.

In January, my father was in a car accident due to low blood sugar, and the paramedic at the scene called me using my father's cell phone~ that had me listed as an emergency contact using ICE after my name in his contact list.

I just got a new cell phone, and the very first thing listed when you open the Contact List is + IN CASE OF EMERGENCY , and then it allows you to put in your emergency contacts, and there is also a spot for Personal Info.

Default I don't have a cell phone

I had one about 5 years ago,and decided I don't need one.

I guess they would check my License plate's,and go through my wallet to get all of the information if I have a accident.

I have a mobile radio in my car.

I have telephone numbers in my wallet. BF

I have my Treo set to display the owners page as soon as you hit a button.

That page has my name and home phone, labeled as such. Below that, is "Please call in case of an emergancy:" and a list of my husband's and parents' names, numbers, and their relationship to me.

My contacts in the PIM also have their relationships listed, just in case my immediate family is unavailable.
I also keep the Medic-Alert card in my wallet. In fact, it is over my DL. I figure, sooner or later, someone will look for that and spot the card with my info. Kind of a back up for the bracelet.
