Hi All!
Can any of you help me figure out what peripherals are needed for my old printer. (I simply can't find them). I want to give this printer to my friend who is going through a divorce and who is living with her mom. She has a computer which uses Windows XP. She needs a printer. I said "I have a printer in my closet and I used to use it with my computer and I have windows XP, so I don't think there will be a problem" I went home, found the printer but for the life of me, I can't find the peripherals. I went online and put in the name of the printer It's a HP Deskjet 3940 I found a website that showed the cables but it said USB, and I just took a photo of the back of this printer. THIS IS NOT (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) A USB PORT. The printer I am now using uses a parallel port connection. The old one (that I want to give her), does not have a parallel port. What is this port called? Here's the photo ![]() Also, what kind of power plug does this thing use. I am completely clueless. Thanks if anyone knows. Melody UPDATE UPDATE. I'm not as stupid as I look. I looked it up online. It's a Type B USB. Now what kind of power cord. P.S. I'm going back in the closet and try to find the peripherals. I feel like a nut. lol

on the HP site- I found this page-
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...51-445475.html [Recommended Printer Cables and Cable Kits HP Printer Cables HP Deskjet 3940 Color Inkjet Printer HP USB Cable (a-b) 2 meter (C6518A) ] I think these types of cables are pretty generic , meaning one brand will work with another brands product. the older style printer cables were interchangeable too. I leave both types connected to my computer and then hook up the one needed.

Just came back from her house.
I found ALL THE PERIPHERALS. I went to her home and hooked up everything. It would not print. I figured out that the printer was OFFLINE (whatever that means, I have no clue). And whatever I tried to do, I couldn't get it ONLINE. So I said "Let's go on AOL (she has dial up, no high speed). I went to yahoo, and typed in "My printer is offline, how do I get it set to ONLINE". I found many links. One said to unplug everything and replug everything back and it should re-set to ONLINE. I did it. It worked. She's a happy camper. And thank you very much for your trying to help. Thankfully, I figured it out. I wonder what I'll come here for next!!!! lol Melody
