Sticking keys?

I don't know anything about keyboards, but hubby drops pipe ashes sometimes in the laptop. Last summer some of my keys wouldn't work unless I pounded on them.

I turned it on its side and thumped it alot, and the problem seems to be temporarily gone.

I use a basic old cheapy Dell ... I think this is a question for Jo!
