make sure your speaker plug is plugged into the GREEN hole in the back of your computer. The color should closely match the color of the tip end of your speaker wire. MOST color code. If yours is black, dont worry, just look for the green square with the little speaker symbol on it. ONce plugged into that one, it should no longer sound like a tunnel.

If you look at your screen. ON the bottom right, you should see a tiny symbol at the very bottom right that looks like a speaker with ))) marks coming out of it. RIGHT click on that, and adjust the volume.

I hope you get to see your DVD.

It is plugged into the green and it still sounds like it's in a tunnel. The surgery was postponed for 2 weeks so I've got more time to figure it out.

Since you have a little more time, maybe I can help you with some troubleshooting. It sounds like the problem is probably one of 5 things: the CD you received, your speakers, the speaker settings, the sound card, or the sound card driver. When I’m troubleshooting, I typically start with testing the easiest and least costly first, then progress upward to the most time consuming and most costly. So, here are the steps I would take, in the order I would try them.

Step One - CD: Do you have a music CD, try that in the CD drive and see how it sounds over the speakers.

Step Two: Have you tried using headphones? AfterMyNap recommended that, but I don’t see if you tried it or not. If you don’t have headphones, ignore this step for now.

Step Three - Sound Card Driver: Here is a link that describes how to Update and/or Repair the Sound Card driver:

Step Five – Headphones: If you don’t own headphones, purchase an inexpensive set and try those. If they sound good, that might solve your immediate problem.

Step Six – Speakers: If the Headphones did not sound ok, you can Skip this step. But, if the headphones did sound good, you probably need new speakers.

Final: If nothing above worked, I would tend to think you have a problem with your sound card, and you might want to talk to Rent-A-Geek.

Thanks for the information. I will try all that later. The Sudafed the doctor put me on has me pretty out of it at the moment so I will work on it later. I've got to get my sinuses under control before they'll do the surgery cause it's causing me to cough a lot.

I never tried the headphones but will do that when I can find the ones I had or get new ones. It's good to have them anyway.

I've got the headpones and it still echos. how do I tell if I have service pack 2 for Vista? I can not tell if I've installed that or not.

I know what version browswer but that's not what I need to know. I need to know how to tell what Service Pack I have installed. I'll do a google to see how to tell like I did with the browser. Thank you.

I did step 1,2, and got stuck on step 3. I could have sworn the page the link took me to said I needed to be up to date on the service pack for the sound card driver. I will go there now.
