Your Lightscribe is a burner - and it can label the disks also.

here is a link about it and a tool box with down load/support -- maybe that drive is where the problem is - maybe a special download is needed for it.-

Alan's link is handy so if the computer guy says a new drive is needed you will have an idea of prices.

you probably don't even need a lightscribe - since you don't burn anything and the labeling feature is just an extra..

I just use a permanent marker and write what it is..:)

Yeppers hardware :)

It is an easy change that anyone can do. I dont use my dvd burner to play movies, but I do save all my pictures and videos on dvd's. What is nice about dvd's is they hold over 4 gigs...thas alot of pictures LOL!

The only difference is the buzzers and whistles. Most free ones are a stripped down version, pretty straight forward. The ones you pay for have more options to play with, but I have found that it is something rarely if ever used anyways.
Here I was talking about software. When you asked the difference in free opposed to the ones you can buy :winky:

I don't have any pictures to save, and I don't burn anything, so all I need is to be able to play dvds on my computer.

So we shall see what the computer guy says when I bring this big thing in.

lol

P.S. Just got finished watching the Biggest Loser. Oh my goodness.

Guess what I just did? I joined the message board on Lightscribe and posted my problem. Maybe someone else has had the same problem.

We shall see.
Thanks much all of you for all your help and suggestions.

Hi Melody.
The suspense is killing me. Were you able to get it fixed? Is the DVD working? What ended up being the reason given by the guys at the shop? I hope it all got worked out. I would love to hear the details. God Bless You.

H Bernclay.
Well, the suspense will have to keep killing you, at least for a while. lol

Haven't brought it in yet. Too busy washing windows, and replacing my little bedroom tv. That's the one I tape all my shows on. The little tv (I never used it for watching, just for having a viewing medium, for when I program the cable box to switch channels, so I can record the Tudors, and then two hours later, I might want to record something on Starz or some other channel.

So when that TV died and went to heaven, I simply walked around the corner to the junk guy who SELLS everything, and I bargained with him for a little 13 inch tv. He kept saying "but I want $50 dollars, it plays perfectly (and he hooked it up to his cable antennae and it did indeed play perfectly). I told him. "I'm not getting it for watching, I only use it for recording, and if you don't know this, IT DOES NOT RECORD OFF THE TV, YOU DO KNOW THAT DON'T YOU?

Well, he thought he was dealing with a clueless person who doesn't know what a tv is for. He then said "but you can hook a dvd up to this". And I said "I don't need a dvd hooked up to anything, I have a TV for that, I just need a tv for the right side of my bedroom so I can re-hook it up to my vcr and just tape what I want to tape. "I'LL GIVE YOU $20 FOR IT'.

Now be aware, I didn't even look at the kind of tv it was. Didn't see the brand, didn't see anything except that it gave a nice picture in color. It could have been a black and white for all I cared, I just needed a tv medium so I could know what the heck I was taping.

So we are haggling back and forth, and I finally said 'Take the darn $20, you made $20 today".

He took it. I go home, just put the coaxial cable into the back of it, plugged it in. BEAUTIFUL TV. And if the one I presently use for watching anything happens to break, THEN I WILL JUST SWITCH IT FOR THIS NEW ONE.

Oh, you might be guessing "what was the brand Melody bought for $20.00?"

A SONY!!!

Works perfectly and it even has a headphone jack (which is mandatory in this house).

So I can once again tape my soaps and anything else I happen to want to record.

You should have seen us the night that all the finales were on. Holy Moly, I was recording, THE BIGGEST LOSER, NCIS, and other stuff. We used all the vcrs and tv's in the house. I have a extra cable box that they don't charge me for. So I don't have to miss anything. And sometimes I forget to tape it, like the other night with So You Think You Can Dance".

I found it online.

Not that I spend hours watching tv. I just like to be able to know that if I want to record something, I can.

I have two more vcrs in the closet that my neighbor gave me. So I'm good for a while. But when these vcr's run out, and I have to go the DVR route, I can only imagine Alan trying to learn how to program these kind of boxes.

He's the type of man who holds the remote in front of the tv set and when he presses a wrong button yells out "MELODY, WHAT DID I DO?" and I go in and just press something and all is right again.

lol

But I shall be sure and update you when I get this dvd rom thing fixed.

Take care,

Melody
