I never use Internet Explorer, we use Mozilla.
When we run a virus/spy-scan, this thing pops up BROWSER HIJACK INTERNET EXPLORER SETTINGS HIJACK. We do the scan, it gets rid of this, but ten minutes later, if I did another scan, THERE IT IS AGAIN. It's in the registry. We use Super Antispyware Professional. I went to google and tried to find a way to get this thing out of my computer but it's over my head. Oh, when we first run Super Anti Spyware, it pops up saying "WE HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS IS TRYING TO CHANGE YOUR HOME PAGE (on IE). Allow change? Block change? I select Block Change. Then I run the scan. Makes absolutely no difference. This has been there all week. No matter how many scans I do, the Hijack thing is still there. Anyone know how I can permanently delete this Browser Hijack thing? Much Appreciated. Melody

I was told by a computer literate friend that besides an antivirus you need a great "maleware removal" program He told me to get Malwarebytes.... you can download it free at www.download.com it is the cnet central site. just search for the name Malwarebytes and it will be right there to download. It sure made a difference in my computer and it runs fast again too.

I went to the link, tried to download the free malwarebytes program, when all of a sudden, my anti-virus program alerted me that this was a potentially dangerous program that contained adware and spyware. It gave me the option to allow or to block. I chose block because honestly, I didn't know what else to do. More advice is welcome. melody

Malwarebytes is a safe program you can OK it.
Your Super Antispyware Professional is probably just on a high setting or for some reason giving a false reporting. Some are set for high security and ask you to verify everything.

I didn't buy it. I then ran a Spyware scan and the Hijacker thing was still on my computer. I give up. Melody

Our Malwarebytes is working well for us. All the free programs, would like you to upgrade. You don't have to. Avast works well for us free, and they want upgrade $$ all the time.
There is a place on the Windows site, that fixes popups. It was years ago a friend had porn ones coming on from a corrupted email picture from a friend. My son found the way to get rid of them from Windows. Try going there and keyword "pop-ups fix". There is also a way to go into "explorer" and removing it manually, as I did this once. (I picked up a hijack from a ICQ place once) But my son talked me thru that one. Maybe someone here is brave and can do that for you! I can't recall what I did, as it was over 4 yrs ago! ![]()

But honestly, the way my husband goes on the internet all night long and does these surveys and lord only knows what else he does (he loves surveys), and affiliates, and all those things that I absolutely DO NOT understand, but he says "look I just got paid eighteen cents" and I just look at him. Hey, it gets his mind off of his neuropathy, so what can I do. I'm not going to go nuts over this, because I know that once I get rid of this, he'll just do more surveys and I'll get another thing. I will try going to Windows to fix popups. I HATE THESE THINGS. I get these all the time. Thanks much Melody

Have you tried the WOT browser install?
It color codes what sites are safe and which ones to avoid and easy to set up for IE or FF. the info page - http://www.mywot.com/ I've used it for a few yrs now and I think it does help us avoid those bad sites that will cause problems.
