Default I'm thinking of buying a SMALL video camera

I have never used a camcorder. Now they sell all kinds of FLIPS and dips and all kinds of neat things.

My niece send me flip recordings of the baby all the time. People have asked me to record how my sprouts are doing, and I can't drag the computer into the kitchen over to my sprouting shelves so I said "get a FLIP thing".

I went on Ebay and there are ALL KINDS OF FLIPS AND PIPS AND DIPS AND I have no clue which one is a good one.

I don't need bells and whistles and lots of cables.

What I want is a little gadget that I can go in the kitchen, aim it at my sprout shelf, record something (or go out and see my friends around the corner and record them too), then go to my computer, stick some thing in the USB thingee and either save it to my hard drive or upload to youtube.

Look at this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Jazz-Digital-Vid...item4aa3ae76f8

Now it says it's a KIDS camcorder. What makes this a kids camcorder and not one that anyone can use.

Does the same thing right? And if it's easy for a kid to use, it must be easy for a brain dead adult like me who has never held a camcorder in my hands.

Now I've recorded things with my webcam but that's easy.

This is a portable thing that I can come and go, record and upload.

Please read all the stuff that this item comes with. Do I need to buy something else to record stuff and upload it to youtube, or does this gadget HAVE IT ALL!!!

It's not expensive and I can do this. I just don't understand why some of them are $160.00 and some are $39.99

Thanks my dears if you can clear this up for me.

Melody

I wouldn't buy on ebay....There have been many articles about ebay as not being a good place to buy camera equipment or computers. Many people get stung there...including my own son who bought a zoom lens which turned out to be broken.

Some outlets online with guarantees may be as reasonable.
Even Amazon might.

A good resource for evaluating various kinds is Steve's digicam site.

Okay, got that, no buying electronics on Ebay.

I also watched many videos on this camera on youtube. They compared it to the Flip Video and the video was much better (with the Flip)

Anyone use the Flip? and same questions apply.

You just point, record, the little USB thing pops out, you stick it in the computer, and some software thingee pops up, and you press on an option and up to youtube it shall go.

Right?

Because if it's as simple as this, I don't need an expensive one with lots of megapixels (whatever on earth these things are) I just want to videotape some stuff.

I watched a 13 year old displaying the Jazz and I wish I could get that kid to come to my house, hook up a router, set up a laptop, show me the Flip.

My goodness, the things that were coming out of his mouth. Well I was impressed.

Reminds me WAY BACK WHEN, when VCRS's first came out and I didn't know how to set the clock or learn how to program it, someone told me "if you know a 5 year old, ask him" I never laughed so hard.

Then I learned and I can now do this in my sleep.

I know, I know, NEXT STOP DVRs

That will happen when the VCRs no longer function.

Until then, Alan will still scream "Melody, why is there a blue screen on my tv"?

lol

Hi.

Thanks very much for the information

For me, the Flip video camera seems very simple. I'm saving up to buy one.

Thank you Mrs. D.

Melody
P.S. I finally learned how to use my webcam CORRECTLY. Yesterday I made a video (go to youtube and just type in eliz7212) and you'll see my latest one on my stackable sprouting trays. People on another forum asked me "Make a video on how you use the green trays".

So I did.

People are sprouting all over the place.

lol

Melody
P.S. I'm down to 6 1/2 of the Lantus. This morning sugar was 114.
NEVER HAD THAT HAPPEN IN MY LIFE. whatever I'm doing, it's working.

Did you buy a Flip yet?

I happened on a sale on one at Best Buy a couple months ago. I was not looking for a video camera at all. But, I had been thinking of having someone video me working with my service dog so I might see mistakes or ways to improve my training.

I saw one on sale for $99, and checked it out. The guy who helped me was really very good (surprise for Best Buy!) he didn't try to get me to buy the $200 model.

My Flip says "Ultra" on the front. I'm looking at the directions and can't see a model number. It takes 2 AA batteries. It will also work with rechargables. When I know I am going to use it I charge batteries and use them, but if it is spur of the moment and away from home, I use regular AA and take a spare set with me.

It has a bit of zoom, but that is about it for bells and whistles. Yes, a thing comes out of the side to connect to USB - mine did not come with any cords, so if you don't have a USB cable, you will need one unless you can plug it right into a laptop or a USB port that you can reach. My computer's USB port is in the back, and it's a desktop type, so I have a cable connected that I use with it.

It is a simple as it sounds - press the button to record and again to stop.

Downloading to your computer - I can't answer that. I have a Mac, and when I connect, it comes up like a USB Drive, I open it, find the file and drag and drop to my desktop. I don't use iPhoto to import it. I **think** it may have come with a disk of Windows apps, but I am not sure, and I don't have the box handy.

Then I use a mac program called iMovie - which I had never used before I got this camera - to edit, add slides with words... you can also add music. I am sure there is something similar for Windows. I will PM you a link to a video I shot of my service dog.

I don't read this forum normally, so if you reply here, and I don't respond back to you, it is because I forgot to check back! So, PM me for more info.

Hi. I pm'd you.

I haven't bought the Flip yet. And when I do, I'll use it to make videos and upload to youtube. I have a usb right in front of my tower. Says USB 2.0 so that's the one I'll use.

Now THAT will be a hoot!!

Thanks much

You are not kidding.

What do you think of this one?

I know it's refurbished but it's cheap.
