Default Do you Hulu?

I signed up for a free month of Hulu plus today. I am going to try it and see if its worth ditching the cable TV bill for it. I can easily watch many programs on it that are easy to find, but I am wondering if its just fun because its new. I am a creature of habit, and like to flip on House at 8pm on Mondays. Will I be able to do that with the antenae?

Anyway, wanted to know if anyone uses this as their Cable TV entertainment vs the cable company. My bill is soaring, and I get bad service. its this or dish network, and im quite tired of bad service.

Hulu is an internet service that allows you to watch TV shows or movies. The free version allows you to watch a limited number of stuff, but the paid version allows you unlimited access to current and past episodes of all of the network shows. so, lets say you like the series House. I missed Monday! oh no! well, look it up on Hulu.com and you can find it there for free to watch.

Many folks are giving up their expensive cable TV bills, and phone bills in exchange for keeping internet based services. You can get your phone across the internet and your TV shows now like Hulu or Netflix.

I was wondering if anyone else had done this. it could save me a ton of money to plug in an HD antennea and just watch over the air stuff, and use Hulu for stuff I missed, or movies.

Might be worth it if you hook the pc up to your TV, or if you have a laptop that would be comfortable to watch from the couch or a comfy chair.

But I can't seem to sit still for the shows to load on the regular hulu, plus don't they have ads on the regular hulu shows??
It's been awhile since I tried to watch a show there.
We have home wireless and multiple pc's running sometimes so our internet can get slowed down at those times if all are online.

I couldn't tell for sure how they delivered it by reading on the website.
So it still comes over your regular dsl or cable??

A couple yrs ago I did get a cable to connect our laptop to the big TV , but the picture is just not as good that way. But it could have been due to the resolution/settings on the pc.
I didn't want to fiddle around with a lot of changes just for a "test".

Over the air /broadcast TV
Do you have a newer TV ?
( LCD/plasma etc / flat screen with a tuner built in)

We just use our same old rooftop antenna for the main TV and rabbit ear type for the bedrooms, they work fine.
But maybe we aren't getting the HD even tho the TV can do HD???Oh well ..
We're just happy to not have to pay a monthly cable bill

I have newer HD tvs. LCD not LED. They are good quality and will last me for a long time. i have zero desire to upgrade to LED or 3d. that stuff gives me a headache. I do want to install a receiver up on the roof. I have regular HD rabbit ears, but we live in the boonies and cant get a signal here. Even in the camper, I have to raise the antennae to get a signal.

I will admit I have been spoiled. When i first got sick, DH asked what would really help. I said "a movie channel" well, he went over board and got ALL movie channels. We have HBO, Showtime, CINemax, TMC...We dont watch all those! I do like a couple of showtime shows like United states of Tara and Nurse Jackie and the big C. I would miss those, but could watch them on Netflix when they come out. I am paying way too much for Cable/Phone/Internet. Comcast is horrible, but its the only choice out here. No one else offers anything other than dial up internet and I would rather throw out the computer. So, if I cut off the cable and phone (used internet based services) I would save about $150 a month or $1,800 per year. thats a huge savings if you think about a vacation or a cruise for the same money. I am so frugal with everything else I do, and got lazy about TV when I got sick.

I am having a hard time turning over money for a phone that doesnt always work, and for tons of cable channels that we dont watch. When I call the company they have lower packages, but we would get less channels for about the same money. Why would I lose channels only to save $5 ?? I wouldnt. The savings would have to be significant for me to drop down.

I was hoping to run into someone else who had ditched the cable. YEs, Hulu free has ads, and takes it time to load. I do have my old PC hooked to the TV and upgraded it to Windows 7.

Dej - We don't have cable. But, sometimes there isn't much to watch on regular tv. We thought of getting cable but it is expensive and we really would only watch a few of the stations. It just wasn't worth it.

I did some research and ended up buying a Roku. It was much cheaper than buying a Wii or Xbox or Playstation. We love it. We can watch not only what's on Netflix (we got a subscription to that) but we can rent movies/tv shows through Amazon. We can also Hulu through it as well, I just happened to do Netflix as I didn't know you could do that with Hulu until I got the Roku and saw that you need a subscription for Hulu Plus (or Pro, can't remember). They have lots of other channels as well, some you need a subscription to and some you don't.

Like the Wii, Xbox, and Playstation, you need a wireless router in your house for the Roku as well.

For $70 this has been such a great thing for us. We can always find something on there. Plus, $70 is almost what a month of cable would be. We can watch the shows and movies that interest us.

I am finding that I am using NetFlix much more than Hulu. Netflix doesnt have commericals and Hulu does. I am getting better titles and more organized que with Netflix as well. I have not cancelled the Hulu yet, but am trying to find ways to make it work, or learn it so that I can navigate more easily. So far I am giving it a pass. I can see recent episodes of popular shows and I cant do that on Netflix, but I still have my TV with a DVR so I dont miss out on those episodes anyway. It did help when the power went out last sunday I got to immediately see what I missed, but is it worth the $8 a month? so far, its a no.

I do not have cable or satellite any longer. I watch everything on my laptop, I use Hulu and a few other sites. I don't go to movies anylonger, I watch them free from my laptop.

I figured it saves me close to 12 to 15 hundred bucks a year.
The next cutback is going to be my cell, I'm going with Straight Talk and that cuts my cell bill in half.

Hulu is cool if you like the shows but there are only a few there that I like and it's cheaper for me to watch them when they come out. I would suggest checking out Netflix if you haven't already, it's more about movies and past seasons of certain TV shows but there is a HUGE selection compared to Hulu and I enjoy much more of the shows and movies.

I cancelled my HULU subscription. I found I wasnt using it, and couldnt justify the $8 a month to have it sitting on the side lines. perhaps if I had turned off the cable and was depending on it for my shows I would use it more, but I found it to be full of advertising and interuptions. if I am paying for a service I dont want commericials. like HBO I expect them to advertise themselves at the begining or end, but not to interupt me 3 times in a half hour show for a phone ad.

So, thats my lesson. I may pop onto the FREE stuff they have, but for now, its not woth the cost. they need to get better at it first.
