I bumped the CPU speed up in the Bios

i need to take a break from the problem - neck and shoulders are complaining about too much time working on it.

I'll just use Kubuntu Linux for while - since it's working and faster

I bookmarked that link so i can read more there later-
thanks everyone

I hope I don't jinx anything - but used Linux this morning and also did bump up the CPU speed too
- switched to windows this afternoon and it is not sluggish anymore at all!!
YEAHHHH!

If wittesea's hubby hadn't mentioned the CPU probability/cause I wouldn't have ever thought of tweaking that.

so - so far so good

thanks everybody

I reinstalled XP fresh about 5 times now and the system idle process is sucking up so much of the CPU!

I haven't even added any programs or downloaded any MS updates yet!

only thing running is Foxfire browser & the Thunderbird email program.

Plus the CPU usage shows it keeps bouncing between 56-95 %??

Hi All,
my query is on the same line as Jo,s...but am using AMD Turion 64 Mobile tech MK36... the system idle process eating up almost 80% of CPU... making the internet very slow... I have got windows XP.. got 1.5 GB ram and I donno due to some reason when I check it always shows that I have 1.1 MB free when the comp loads up.... I have cccleaner which runs automatically everytime my laptop wakes up... I have deleted all the startup programs.. but still the same... Is it some Adware.. have tried to fix it using my antivirus... Smitfraudfix... helped a bit... but recently it has become really slow... can you guys help me... cheers

Hi - I think not long after this was when my mother board/cpu {one of them} quit on me. system was about 4 yrs old.

so I ended upgrading my system - MB/cpu, ram, sata HD new except for the case and my pc cards. MB had lots of built ons but saved cards just in case.

how old is your system?

We have listings on many free ad/spy/antiv/ in our useful stickys at the top of our threads here.
some miss things that another will catch -same with reg cleaners

I would try a few of each and see if you can fix it that way first.
some AV pgms use more resources that others too.

Is it only the internet that is slowed down or other programs too?
