Those have way more memory than you would ever need for mostly internet use. The HD is huge - I haven't even put a dent in my 1T drive space.
I don't know if you would ever use the wireless card? just thinking why pay for much more than you will need since technology is improving at such a fast rate. and as long as the monitor plugs in it should work just fine. There are some Basic desktops that would fit your needs just fine - and a bit less $$ too - http://www.staples.com/Basic-Desktops/cat_CL166044 http://www.officedepot.com/catalog/s...EIcJCbBe3j3WCf

If you don't need a wireless connection you don't need the wireless card 2- up to a point but 8 G ram is more for gamers & people using a lot of programs at one time. 2.5 G is what I have and it loads pages just fine - I had 1.5 until just this spring.

And thanks for the info on the dvd rom drive. I had no clue what all those specifications were. So, so far, I'm good to go. I ran this by Allengamer and he did indicate that the HP Slimlines only last one year. I have to look into that. But I do like this one And THANKS. so if all my ducks are in a row, this is a good deal right? Melody

Monitor connections are standard for the industry- as long as the plug fits into the computer - it should work fine.
http://computers.toptenreviews.com/h...-computers.htm What about asking the computer guy that has worked on yours before, how much to upgrade it? But didn't you just get a new mother board & hard drive and more memory fairly recently this spring?? Is it still having problems? Or are you getting the new one as a second computer?

Okay, let's talk about me getting a new motherboard and more Ram. Yeah, I did that. And here's why I don't trust what he did. I have a HP Pavillion Media Center. when I got the computer back and I knew he put a new motherboard in, well, when I boot up the computer it says:
COMPAQ Now when I asked him about this, if you think I understood what he said, forget it. It worked great for a while, then the DVD Lightscribe thing stopped playing dvds. So that doesn't work. What happens now is I'll be on Mozilla Firefox and I'll be on the internet and it all goes away. Then I have to reboot. Or....God forbid we have been on the internet and we go off, it won't bring up Mozilla or Internet Explorer. I have to re-boot and then I can go on the internet. Unless we leave it on and we're online, if we should go off the internet, it will never let us go back on, unless we re-boot. That is VERY annoying. I have no idea why, when I click on an icon of either Mozilla or Internet Explorer it just does nothing. That's when I need to reboot. Oh, sometimes it won't let me do the shut down thing. You know, go to start, select "shut off computer" I will select this and it just stays on. To turn it off, I often have to press and hold the power switch for about 5 seconds. We got this computer in 2005. So why would it say COMPAQ when it boots up?? Any ideas? And how do I find out if my present computer as a wireless card. The reason I ask is I just might want to use this as MY computer. Putting it in my bedroom, fooling around with it, re-formatting it, and if I put a router in the living room (when I get a new computer), I could use this to go online and not have to go into the living room. But I know I would have to have a wireless card right? Could I have one installed and not know it? How do I find this out? Thanks much Melody

Ah I remember the Compaq mystery now ,
HP & Compaq are partners or HP bought Compaq I think, so that could be it. If you had a wireless card there would be an antenna - usually about 3" LONG OUT THE BACK OF THAT PARTICULAR CARD (darn hit caps lock LOL) like these- http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isc...0l3.4.3.1l11l0 Last time I talked to Verizon ( now mine is frontier) but they wanted to sell me their own wireless modem/router - so if you do go with 2 machines and don't want them both close by the dsl modem (wired) - you cloud look into the Verizon wireless modem/router. not sure what the problems are with your internet - the not shutting down stuff - the not opening browsers.... mine was acting a lil weird so i did a clean & defrag amazingly that fixed the problem - something must have got scrambled when we had a power off /then on again right away. you might try some scans, clean up and defrag it to see it it helps anything.

Okay, I am DEFINITELY liking this one. I checked the specs and it indicates it has 6 USBs, so I can do the Flip, my printer, the keyboard and the mouse, right? I just want to make sure that I'm reading this correctly because when you look at the tower it only shows two USB's on the front and I'm thinking, the others must be on the back, right? http://www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-S...5#revs_content So I gather I just go and get this, and plug my monitor in, and (oh, I like my own keyboard, it's a KEYS U SEE KEYBOARD with BIG keys). I can use my own keyboard right? And for the money, this does not come with a monitor, right? The price is great. Just clear up my questions, and I think this is the one I should get. What a difference in savings. And thanks much. I just have to make sure there's a plug and play thing for my monitor (Is that what VGA connection means?) Melody
