Looks normal to me in your post here, you might need to uninstall/reinstall chrome, something might have not installed properly.
If all operating system updates (Windows or ?) are up to date - even an older computer should be able to run chrome. Do you have windows XP with Service Pack 3 or something else? Or try Firefox -just to see if it works for you better. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/
