Angry What next?????!!!!!!

The fan on my computer has started running all the time. I dont know if it is damage, AVG said I have no bugs.

I looked at TaskManager CPU useage, it varies 49%-52%. why do I have 3 IE running, can I get rid of 2? There is something called BartShel (2) that is taking a lot, I looked that up and it said its a cheesy thing PeoplePC puts on that can mess up and crash your computer, it seems to be kind of spyware maybe. There was a scan to check it but I was afraid it was bogus and Id get another Trojan. It said you can get rid of it but sometimes it will work and sometimes not, Im so fed up I may try...is the way to do that to 'End Process"?

I havent gotten CCCleaner yet, would it help? My computer is probably full of dust from my other apt, I lived by a dusty, busy street but I think what is going on probably has more to do with my Trojan and uninstalling, etc.

should I give up and reformat? I dont want to if hardware is going south??

Sometimes the fans do weird things. Our laptop fan does this, and we just reboot it, and it stops.

My tower fan always comes on when usage is high...mostly graphics. When I play Angry Birds on FB....my fan comes on almost every time. In the hot summer I put an exterior fan blowing on my tower and that helps. Put your hand on the top of the tower, or under the laptop and if it is warm, then you should do things to enhance air flow.

My son says if your tower is in a cubby move it out if you don't give an external fan. If you have a laptop put some pencils under the bottom to raise it up, so air can circulate beneath it.
If it is hot, it will kill the motherboard eventually.

We don't have A/C in this house, so overheating is a huge issue for us.

We have a chill plate under our laptop computers. When it's turned on it has like a fan in it that helps blow the hot air out from under the computer along with the fan in the computer doing it. It really helps a lot. It's running now. Otherwise, my old laptop would just shut down when it got too hot. And eventually the old laptop was done in.

Default huh..

Thanks, I rebooted and it did shut off. I have it sitting on some little lifts and try to keep it cool. The fan rarely runs but does screech on occasion so maybe it was jammed or something.

Also opened Action Center and it said it tweaked something and it seems to be running better. Also messed around and made my icons very small looking for HP Health Check (it was running and I minimized it and couldnt get it to come back) so now I have funny looking-little icons and forgot how I did it. HA!HA! I love computers...

Thanks

I don't know how brave or handy you are with tools, but you can open the little covers on the underside of a laptop to see if there is dirt, dust or hairs inside.

A very small screw driver is needed and of course turn off / unplug the power cord if using one. non magnetic is best. magnets can mess up many computer parts.

Our old laptop which is now running on a 2nd hard-drive, has this fan problem on start up sometimes. It tends to show up if you
rush the boot up sequence by clicking on something too soon.

So if your fan appears "clean", try and let the thing start up and don't rush it. I tend to be impatient upNorth on boot up because we run on an exterior battery, because that battery died years ago and we are not going to pay the huge price to fix that too.
We have an exterior battery by Energizer that runs several things, including the laptop instead of fixing that costly internal battery. We don't have electricity up there.

Default yay

I'm pretty brave but it doesn't always end well...R.I.P. vaccum cleaner...

When I got online yesterday it made a funny whining noise and I was afraid fan had seized up or something so turned it off. There is a computer place 2 blocks from new apt so took it in this AM. I don't know if they took the bottom off or just blew it out but its fine now, no weird noises. He said it was pretty dirty and did a fan stress test and said fan is fine. Only cost me $20 and was worth it to me so I'm happy. Looks like they cleaned the chocolate off the keyboard too.

It isn't running real well so I may be rushing start up, will try giving it a little more time. It may have just been dust though, it was sitting near an open window and the heater/ac combo blew on it too and when I cleaned the filter on the latter before I moved it was full of dust from the wildfires. Guess sitting by the window isn't a good idea.

Thanks again, I never know whats going on,

Stress test, thats a good one....

Compressed air is a great tool for fans and usually does the trick.

I still think you just get that thing formatted and start fresh...like I told ya months ago

Speedfan?

I know it needs to be reformatted, should have done it instead of upgrading but too late now. I have to recover from spending all my $$ on moving and Christmas is on the way so I think I'll just sit around and complain for awhile more.
