I have been fiddling around with the RTM (in a virtualbox) since the beginning of September. Although you can turn off the metro gui, I am not sold and I am quite happy with Win7.

If you have a copy of Win8 and want to see what it is like before going for the full install or upgrade, I would sugest installing it in a Virtualbox. (free)

Win7 natively has 'Virtual Machine', but (even if you are running 64bit Win7) it can only handle 32bit installs... virtual box can handle both.
