Red face

Sorry, everyone we know hates it ... There is something,
to do with it where you can view it with previous type, which I don't know the details of. I'll have to contact that person again and ask. She got a new computer, with Win 8 but is viewing it as Vista (some add on option or something).

I don't know what I'll do... I hate Win 7 and this computer is XP and I like the way it works for me (it is simple). Win 7 is full of delaying fluff... but hubby likes it. And I have to say Win 7 had a rescue feature hidden in the program to save you from virus loss/damage. It saves the systems, but not your files. Those you should have an external drive back up for. So when hubby got that terrible virus he went thru the rescue thing and didn't have to take it in for repairs. I posted about that in Computer forum. It involved old Java files so if you search Java there you'll find my posts. I think we also posted in the Sticky thread there when it happened.

My son says he doesn't like Win 8 either...or the people where he works mostly don't like it either. He is always pushing us to get a MAC.

If it is only the hard drive & you have your old windows cd you can just get a new drive and install whatever version of windows you want.

Or is the whole computer old and you are looking for a new one?

Most Windows vista,7,and probably 8 too - can be stripped down to look/act more like XP.

But there is also free Linux OS /aka distros to be had

In fact I wiped my last years Compaq w/win 7 laptop and installed Linux Mint KDE- love it and much faster without all the MS & HP bloatware.

finds most drivers automatically and all I had to do was put in our wifi password to connect it to our wireless modem.
It is not hard to figure out like in the past - many distros are very much like windows as far as using & looks.
(many years ago linux was a mystery, but now it is becoming more main stream and beginner friendly)

Lightbulb

I asked hubby about the Win 8. He showed me on our XP how to change the appearance of some screens.

In control panel under the name for the screen, is a link to change appearance.

It is his work colleague who just got the Win 8... so he will ask her how she made the appearance change, and if it requires and add on etc.

The new Win 8 has tiles instead of lists. That might be confusing and too visually cluttered for some people.

I know I don't like the My Pictures on Win 7 at all. duh?
