I think Jo might use XP Pro although I could have a bad memory. Wondering if anyone can help me sort something out for somebody else. They're using XP Pro and their computer is not always saving the colour scheme changes.

It's not all the time that it's happening. e.g. they have changed something in appearances or themes (I'm not 100% sure where you do it in XP Pro) so that when they use the computer the parts that show as bright white are a different colour. So they've saved their setting but it doesn't stick and so when they re-start it goes back to default.

It's difficult asking on behalf of someone else esp. when I'm using a totally different set-up, but just wondered if there is maybe some simple thing that can be done to fix this problem.

I found some info. on a tech board about "not saving settings in XP Pro" so got my friend to follow the path that they suggested to see if she could check or uncheck the setting to actually "save settings" and all it came up for her was "Not Configured".

I have XP Home not Pro.

But I don't know if that would make a difference in the themes etc.
i guess I never really checked into the differences.

have they tried another color/scheme totally to see if that will stay saved?

i have xp pro. there are differences in the setting...for things lke watching tv...playing games...it changes the color values. maybe even check the monitor. i have a flat panel..and it has those same type of settings.

maybe they need to reinstall the XP?
or the video drivers?
bad video card or cables/connections or monitor?

my new motherboard has has built in video but I still had to load the drivers and it has a secondary program for many more settings/customizations than the XP settings in control panel.
but to get to those you still go to settings, control panel, display, settings and on that page go to advanced, then mine says the vid card name {GeForce6150} and that opens up all kinds of settings and options.

I don't know if that will help them
- how long have they had this computer system?

was it working well and then started acting up?
or a new system
or someone changed some settings?

If it worked fine before maybe try a system restore back to the time when it worked well?

I'll relay one step at a time so it doesn't get too confusing for them.
Some of the questions I don't know the answers to but got the idea that it's always done this. I'll tell them what you and curious said about the settings and the monitor and get them to double check their settings again.
