Why is it always me, isn't anyone else having problems anymore?
Yesterday I got a pop up from Windows Defender (I guess) that listed a Trojan and 2 other things as high threat and going to crash my computer. Why I was trying to figure out if it was real the Norton (yeah, I know) online I have from my provider went berserk and kept showing me threats it was fixing. It got them ((I guess) but then said it was eliminsting (not quarantining) "Fake AV" so I thought the whole thing was bogus. Computer was good so I thought all was well. Um, I think Norton ate some of my Windows? I tried to update and that could not be found. It said to restart computer so I did and now its gimpy I think (haven't done much) and still no update. Then I tried to find all the Windows stuff and found Windows Security turned off and tried to turn it on and it said it couldn't. Soooooo.... How can I find this, I don't know what commands to bring up all windows processes and what its called that I need. I am not absolutely sure I didn't lose this stuff on my last crisis but I thought System Restore should have fixed that? ![]() thank you , judi Last edited by zygopetalum; 04-02-2014 at 05:35 PM. There can be conflict between Windows Defender and Norton and I don't know if I forgot that and turned it on or if the Fake A/V alert was real.
![]() I fixed my Windows Update with a little help from Microsoft. Watch out Icehouse, I am after your job. ![]() ![]() ![]() judi |

I think the key word here is "conflict". Norton is a selfish and jealous program and can cause more problems than fix at times.
System Restore may be a good idea, but if it were me I would be uninstalling Norton and rolling with one of the generic, less obtrusive programs like AVG or the others that Jo has listed numerous times. I also think that with all the ongoing software and performance problems you have had over the last year, a fresh install of the operating system from your local tech person would be a sanity saver. Give them a call and see what they would charge, just for giggles. |

No, its Windows Vista.
My sister installed a newer windows for me a couple of years ago, is that what you mean by fresh OS? I had AVG for awhile and computer ran worse, I read it can do that? I might take it in at some point but am kind of thinking about just saving my pennies for a new one. I have to move again this summer ( church across the street emits smoke from oil furnace, not good on my poor lungs) so will see what transpires. I don't know if its dying, Facebook pages load funny, central picture will come and rest of screen remains black for a few more seconds, I don't know if that means anything or not. Also get scarey hard drive noises on occasion. ![]() I may just go on like this for awhile and continue to frustrate you more knowledgeable people. ![]() ![]() judi |
