Default java oracle

My computer finally died and I bought a used Dell Latitude D830 with new hard drive and Windows 7 install from a computer shop. It has some bugs but I guess it will be ok.

It wants to update java oracle, do I need that? I looked on the site and I still can't tell what it is. I want to get rid of it if I don't need it, I don't need tricky stuff that makes things more complicated.

Also can someone tell me if this is the right site for CCCleaner? I clicked on the right where it says downloads and then clicked on free download on that
screen and got a bunch of that PUP malware stuff.

thanks, judi

Java is a safe update.

I would get ccleaner from here: http://download.cnet.com/CCleaner/

Download button on upper left, choose free version.

Thanks, that CCCleaner worked much better.

Java update failed so it re-insalled itself or something. Do I really need it?

Computer turned itself off to avoid a crash again this AM, now it said 'system service exception'. They said they ran a diagnostics scan after I took it back in for 'bad pool header' error. Is it just going to be buggy for awhile or should I go pinch their little heads? It has stuff I don't care about, itunes, etc. Would it help if I got rid of some stuff?

I could just drive it until the electrical system fries like the last one.

If you have any kind of warranty from that shop I'd keep taking it back til they fix or exchange.
It may be a internal hardware problem that is getting ready to break then you'll be stuck with another bad machine..

If it has a new hard drive then it should have a clean install of the Win 7- unless they cloned the bad drive for the install or used a bad install disk..

I's ask if it was a clean, fresh install of the Win7.
If so ask what hardware could be causing the lock/shut downs.

Something is not right - it shouldn't be doing those things

I think it's a Win7 bad installation - or funky internals going bad..motherboard, cpu ram, etc..

Thanks, my Adobe Flash crashed today. It does have a 30 day warranty (I thought it would be 6 months or something but o well) so will take it back in. I will mention the possibilities you listed so they know I talked to someone else.

I don't use Java, in fact I am not allowed to install Java on our computer My husband works in the computer industry and has nothing good to say about Java. So, obviously you don't 'need' it

This explains what Java is:

Thanks, I thought it was something like that, I'm not planning to do any web design in the near future..or ever.

I have free Avast, it says I have a corrupted 'rdpwd.sys.' I think thats from a Trojan but am not sure. I thought Malwarebytes got them all from the bad CCCleaner attempt.

My Firefox update failed. I haven't looked to see if I still have the key code. I hope to get them to fix it.

judi

Does this work? Or would they know how to fix the error?

*edit*

I clicked that link and my browser add on WOT (web of trust) popped up a warning, so I closed it fast.. I do use Linux so it is less susceptible to junk but no use taking chances...

WOT- info site - this will tell you if you go to a questionable site , so you can leave or avoid before computer gets a problem from it.
https://www.mywot.com/

I also recently installed Ghostery - blocks tracking

I hope you don't mind if I remove that link so others don't have issues from it.
