Default Why can't I insert Smiley's and hugs??

I go on the Peripheral Neuropathy forum and sometimes I want to put in a smiley or something. So I go to the right side of the screen where they have Smilies, and when I try to insert one, it does not work. I also notice that on the bottom of the page where it says (under posting rules), vB code is on, Smilies are on, img code is on, html code is OFF. Does this mean anything?

I'm going to try and insert a smiley here.

See, it didn't put it in. What the heck am I doing wrong, and how can I rectify this? Thanks. It really is not big deal, but I used to be able to insert hugs, smilies, happy faces, but now, well, I really think that because the html code thing is OFF, well, how can I put it back to ON?

I've tried to look this up in my user profile, under options, but no where does it say how to turn on the HTML thing.

I mean, it might not even be the HTML thing that is preventing me from inserting what I want to insert, but I'd like to find out why.

Thanks to anyone who has had this happen to them.

Melody

G'day Melody
HTML is off for everyone as far as I know.
I don't think that's the problem. I've had the same thing happen to me that you described and I'm trying to remember what the problem was and how I fixed it. It's wake up time in Australia and after I consume one cup of caffeinated coffee I'm sure I'll remember. Meanwhile, I'll go to my user options and see if I can figure out if there's a box there that needs to be unchecked or checked. I think this is something that'll be easy to fix.

Edited to add: I tried a few things, but I can't for the life think of what happened when that was going on for me. If I do think of it I'll come post it Melody. Meanwhile someone else might know.

I know that if I'm using Quick Reply I can't do it unless I click on "Go Advanced". I take it that you mean you can actually see the gifs there but when you click they don't work??? Is that right?

TEST

There is a "Disable Smilies" button down under the place where you write the new message.

So what do I do, the box is unchecked where it says Disable Smileys in text. All the other boxes are checked.

So obviously, because this box is not checked, this is not causing me not to be able to insert stuff, right?

Melody

That's right, Melody.
If it's unchecked it shouldn't be affecting the way you're posting smilies.

I looked around on some vBulletin boards for similar issues. I actually had no luck with finding the problem. I had some weird glitch the other day and I posted about it in the main Community Feedback forum. I am not really sure how I fixed it but did shut down a couple times and cleared everything out like the cache.

Have you just tried logging out, shutting down and clearing cache and see if it is still happening?

I'm sorry I can't help with this anymore. I just don't know why it would be happening if you have all your settings right and as you usually do.

What happens if you try to click on where it shows the icons at the top of the message box... where it shows B I U etc. Do they work at all or is it just the Smilies?

How long has this been going on Mel?
All I can think of trying for now is what Lara mentioned and see if that helps it.
