We use Malwarebytes the professional with a small fee. We got
a virus days into this new computer... sneaked in with Adobe download. Our free version didn't catch it but the professional one did. So now we only use the pay for version here.

Another good one is Trend micro House Call. We have used it in the past, but haven't needed it recently.

We switched our Avast to AVG free version and it catches much more than Avast did.

If you might be getting things while browsing online, maybe add protection onto your browser instead of the whole system.. stop /block it before it gets in..

most browsers have add-ons/extensions.. to choose from-

Firefox add ons- Privacy & Security :: Add-ons for Firefox

Chrome- 4 Best Google Chrome Extensions

Or top free anti virus - Google Search
