Default Low-techno "Help for Idiots" Please!

Hi All,

I would very much appreciate a couple of "how tos" that would help me be a better "poster". I've Googled for answers but guess I'm too low-tech to find.

1. How can I move & include in my post info from the net? Others do this all of the time.

2. Is it possible to move a hyperlink from a thread on one msg board to a thread on a different msg board. I've been told by others that they cut & paste. I don't have these tools on my toolbars when I'm on the boards. How do I cut & paste? (This desire arises from a situation where the first board might "go off the air" and the posters are setting up on an alternative board.)

If anyone is willing to help me, please let me know. Here or by pm.

Thanks in advance.

Look up at the top of your screen.

It says "file" "edit" "view".......
remember "edit"

Now, go to where it says: "file", and click on it.
Move the mouse/cursor/pointer down to either "open new window" or "open new tab" and click on either one of them. When the new window or tab opens type in the internet address that you want to send your new information to, and then when you get there, open up a "post new message" box.

Now go back to the window or tab that has the site with the information that you want to move from displayed/open

Move the mouse/cursor pointer to the start of what you want to move/cut-n-paste (the internet address, information, links, whatever)
Push the left mouse button down and move the mouse/cursor/pointer across the whatever-it is-you-want-to-move. The lines/words/paragraphs/internet address/whatever you are covering will change color as you move across it/them.
When you get to the end of what you want to move/copy, let your finger off of the mouse button.

Move the mouse/cursor/pointer up to the "edit" spot at the top left of your screen
Left click on the mouse button and go tho where it says "copy" and click on it.
OK. Now, go back to the "new tab" or "new window" that you opened just a minute ago,
that is the new site where you want to post your information too.
Go to the "post new message" window and put the mouse/cursor/pointer in window where you want the information you are moving to be seen and click on the left mouse button.
Move the mouse/cursor/pointer back up to where it says "edit" and left click on it. Move the mouse/cursor/pointer down to where it says "paste" and click on it.

Go back to where you wanted the information re-posted and there it is!

You can use the left mouse button to "highlight" or "select" links, words, sentences, articles, and the right mouse button to do the cut/copy/paste etc like Arthur says.

Highlighting/selecting-

[Move the mouse/cursor pointer to the start of what you want to move/cut-n-paste (the internet address, information, links, whatever)
]

Another way to do copy/paste -
highlight or select the text you want as above

Then hold down the Ctrl button and push the c letter key- that will do the Copy action

then wherever you want to Paste the link, text ,etc

just hold down the Ctrl button again and push the v letter key - that does the paste action

so you can use the Edit tool , the mouse buttons, or the Ctrl/c/v keys

Does that help you to understand that part of it?

Hi Barb,

Thanks so much for posting the advice & instructions. I haven't tried to put anything into practice, but I'm planning to tomorrow. Tried PMing you with "thanks" but you don't seem to be PMable. But, of course, I am the "low-tech idiot". Lo! I hope you see this and know how much I appreciate you , arthurhlevine & jo55.
