Default not sure about this virus better to be warned

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this
virus!

I checked Snopes (URL above, and it is for real!!

Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with
an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is
a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of
your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail
address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you n eed to send
this e-mail to all your conta cts It is better to receive this message 25
times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a
friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by
Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was disco vered by
McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This
virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital
information is kept.

Snopes lists all the names it could come in.

jo if you feel this should be posted elsewhere dont hesitate to move it

I've been getting those for a while! I don't open anything with an attachment if I don't know who it's from...nor do I open email if I don't recognize the name!

Thanks, Frank!

Lightbulb I looked this up...

Seems in 2007 there was a real virus.

But the current flurry is a hoax.
http://urbanlegends.about.com/librar...card_virus.htm

Never open an email, if you don't know the person sending, or if the
title is in any way hinky.

I had a friend whose address book was hijacked by a virus and it sent me
a 46K mail with an attachment. Even tho I knew her, it was unlike her to
send something like this...so I deleted it and called her. She was heavily infected and lost files as a result. This was several years ago..the title was some GAME title ..Something Starz or very similar.

Once I examined a header on a no title email, from Yahoo, and it set off my Avast...I almost fell out of my chair! The one blocked that time was a "love" virus. So now I delete all untitled ones too.

You can never be too careful. And now I am VERY careful where I go on the net.
